Half wolf/husky as a pet.

I am considering adopting one from our pound here and I would like to know if anyone has any experience with them?

my aunt has two half malmut half german shepards, theyre sisters. i highlyyyy recommend getting siblings so they can have that development throughout younger ages

what type of climate do you live in? where is your house located in terms of like suburbia or desert or mountains or what?

cool, that could be a sweet looking dog, if you're thinking about getting it, and can handle having a dog (money for food, time to spend with it, etc) then get it!

+k for considering it dude, do you know the story behind it?

I went to a wolf rescue resort and volunteered there for 2 weeks last summer. Most of these dogs are bred with husky to maintain the overall wolf appearance and size but the owners abandon them when they find out that just breeding them with the husky is not enough to take away from the aggressiveness of the wolf. There's mixed opinions on keeping them as pets, some say that they simply cannot be tamed but I've heard stories of people just falling in love with them and taking them everywhere.

My dad had a wolf/husky and absolutely loved it, lived to be 14 years old and was the nicest dog ever, I'd recommend  going for it man

Huskies are quite the handful. I haven't had one personally but i know several people on NS have, and i'm sure they'll meander in here eventually. Do a bit of research on them.

Doesnt have a sibling. And I live in idaho so northwestern climate.

I have a huge (6 acre) back yard, fenced with only a few neighbors.

And yes I have the money for food and definately have the time to have a dog

is this your first dog?  huskies are very very clever dogs (though you can find dumb ones).  Unless you have the time to properly train and entertain your husky there is a good chance it will do whatever it wants and become more manipulative rather than being a trained dog.  That being said they are fun, gorgeous and lovable dogs.

My uncle has one right now. The dog is massive and is insanely strong. My suggestion would be not to adopt this kind of dog if you are not familiar with the bread or dogs in general. I hate to discourage someone from adopting a dog but make sure your the right fit for it first or it will end right back at the pond. My uncle's current dog is nothing but trouble for them, it is so strong it rips the chain its leashed to out of the ground. No kennels around them will take him because he is such a big dog. So consider your situation and if you can handle this kind of dog before you adopt any dog.

You're in a good climate, a good amount of space, the money, and the time. I say go for it.

It's not wolf, but I have a Husky and Border Collie mix. Smartest dog I've ever seen in my life. They require the attention, space, and exercise. But I think you'll be able to handle it in your situation.

This. Huskies, and I would assume ones bred with wolves (...?) are very cunning, and bore easily. If you don't have alot of time to take the dog outside/train him, it will likely be destructive and annoying. That being said, if you can handle and properly train one, you will be hard pressed to find a more loyal, protective, or enjoyable pet out there.

I have a wolf/akita mix. I think the loyalty of an akita dominated over the wolf instinct. Because he is a great dog, aka: good with people, kids, obedient. But every once in a great while you will see the wolf side, especially with other dominate animals. So i guess my advice would be to spend some time with the dog and see if he will be trainable. IF your up for the challenge then start training very early.

Good side of things is that you have the land and space for the dog and a climate that the dog can do well in. The downside is that a lot of habits are already engrained so it will be more difficult to break any bad habits that it may have.

Huskys are known for high predatory instincts which means that they in most cases should not be entrusted completely with young children or other small animals. The exception to these cases is when the dog has spent it's entire life with the child or other animal, where it often then sees it more as a packmate and takes a protective stance.

Definately not my first dog, I have had labradors, poodles, rotweilers and german shepards.

This is defiantely no doubt about it going to be a new challenge in dog training.

I have done quite a bit of research since elgato commented and I am debating on getting him. I have two little neices that come over every once in a while and I would never put them in danger. This dog has been trained a little and shows no aggression to the other dogs and seems to be a lover but I cant ever be too careful ya know?

Im going to do some more interweb browsing but +k to all

i had pretty much same dog a couple years ago. it was akita and timberwolf mix. i got it when it was a young pup and they are very playful . training is a MUST when they are little or dog might get a little wild. but other than that they are a great dog to own

My ex girlfriend had one, it was seriously the most awesome looking dog ever. And it was super sweet, not aggressive at all. I remember the first time I saw it she didn't warn me and I was just like WTF there is a wolf in your backyard!

Do the research though, there are certain precations you have to take, such as (if I remember correctly) extending the length that your fence extends in to the ground, because they will dig under it more easily, and certain other things.

Thats Aki. Hes a siberian husky. They are great dogs. Very athletic, bunny hunters. I love playing with him when Im ripped and sometimes ill just watch him play, hes so funny. Get a husky there dope.
