this is true.

despite the obvious advantages on paper (screen size, network, camera, etc), the iPhone 4 is better. iPhone will always be the best smart phone. Apple does well because they focus on the consumer. It's simple enough that anyone can use it without reading a 50 page manual (such as a blackberry) and it's design and technology are hip, stylish, and diverse enough for everyone. it's the top of the line. get one.

I have the original droid and as soon as the droid x becomes cheaper I'll be getting it. I always get the older generation of everything. No use paying full price.

no youre an idiot. if you have an iq under 100, maybe the iphone 4 is better. but if you have an iq higher than that of a rock, the android system is extraordinarily easy to use. i have an evo 4g and it is so much easier to use than my ipod touch

places where the evo4g kills the iphone 4:

iphone 4 needs to be connected to wifi to video chat on its .3 megapixel camera while the evo4g can be anywhere and vidchat on its 1.3 megapixel camera

evo4g is highly customizable, my phone right now looks like a fucking spaceship display

android market is open source. i dont pay for shit

the evo4g is faster than the iphone in a head to head test

iphone does have a better screen though. and a better vid camera. id give the still photo camera quality to the evo though, i played around with an iphone and my evo and my evo looked better

no anyone who gives a shit about tech will agree with you, I agree with you, there are obviously better phones out there then the iPhone, but the people Im referring too just do not make up a lot of the market...
iPhones sell well because 90% of the people who get them dont give a shit about what you listed, which is a shame, but the truth. Also for the average user iOS4 is way easier to use than any version of android

I went to the verizon store and they had a dummy of the phone there (like just the shell, you cant use it) its pretty big but I like it. They have some promotion going on right now that if you dont have a smart phone right now you can upgrade to one b4 your actual upgrade date is reached. The guy I was talking to however did not know how long that promotion would last for, it may very well end b4 the Droid X is released. Regardless my upgrade is july 21st so ill be getting it than at the latest, should be pretty good.

droid users, how much is your monthly bill?
i'm afraid of running my parents verizon bill up too much by getting this and the 30 a month data plan. i remember seeing a yahoo article that said verizon had a ton of hidden charges for the droid.

I honestly haven't been impressed. I would be happy if it atleast ran alright but mine is constantly laggy. I've done several factory data resets and the phone still runs terribly. I don't know if I got a bad egg or what but I'm already on my second one.

I know you guys dont really know Sony Ericsson in America, but the SE Xperia 10 is pretty awesome. Runs android, 8 mp camera. really fast browser aswell.
and i like the looks of it aswell.

This. Anyone who says a certain phone is "the best" (i.e. a lot of people in this thread) is a moron. There isn't and never will be the "best" phone. It depends on the user's needs. I don't understand why every technology discussion becomes a religious war (mac vs windows, ios vs android, canon vs nikon, etc.). Just list the pros and cons and be done with it already.

First of all, I love my droid.  Way better than the iphone for sure.

Its supposed to be $200 for it, but just go to the store and talk to them and they'll give you a deal.  I told the guy I was low on money so he gave me $100 off and I dont have to pay for the data plan for the first 3 months.
They dont make their money off the phones so its no big deal for them.

I am aware that this debate will never end (iPhone vs. Android)... or at least not sometime soon, but the iPhone 4 does deserve justification.

First off, as of now the iPhone DOES have to be connected to wifi to videochat. But as Fring showed us a couple of days ago (before having skype bail on them), this will not likely be permanent. The iphone 4s frontward facing camera is also very well suited for videochatting, because of the smaller amount of megapixels, it is not as laggy as the higher megapixel cameras featured on Android phones. I am confident that this will be an advantage during 3g video chatting.

The iphone can also be made highly customizable once jailbroken. I know this isn't "apple certified" but it is an extremely easy (literally a 1 click process) and effortless process (that will soon be available for the iPhone 4).

I am not sure what "not paying for shit" has to do with android being open source. Once hacked the iPhone (using hackulo) can download any app for free too, but I do not support this because it does not help push the developer community further.

Yes, the evo4g might be faster, but for this you sacrifice battery life, and size (the evo is substantially bigger and bulkier than the iPhone)

The one thing that impressed me most about the iPhone 4 was the retina display. I kept looking closer, and closer trying to find a single pixel, but there are none to be found. I guess this is just preference whether you want a bigger screen, or a more high res one, but again, with a bigger display, the device gets bigger, which is a turn-off to me.

I guess I'm just sick of people dismissing the iPhone as "to consumer friendly" and not as a big competitor, tech wise, to the new android devices. Both the Evo and the Droid x (and every android phone in general) are revolutionary phones, along with the iPhone, and I am really glad that both apple and google are pushing each other to progress technology as we know it. But to me, the iPhone 4 is clearly the best smartphone out there right now.
