Do windows compare to macs for editing?

I really like windows but I know macs are superior for editing. however, are there any windows laptops that are nearly as good or better?

yes and no. stat wise there are a lot of windows that are better. the operating system of a mac is far superior and macs can run fcp.

You can find a windows that is better as far as processor video card and ram go. For much cheaper, and if you know how to edit on a PC ala vegas or Premiere Pro then you can have a very legit ass setup.

The only reason I use a mac is to run final cut, and I know nothing about PC editing as far as codecs and using premiere pro.

Sometimes I wish that I knew how to use Premiere because owning a mac is far overrated apple as a company blows. (personally opinion) They make very pretty machines but the price premium sometimes just kills me.

As a mac User I am highly considering switching and learning Premiere Pro. Every other piece of software I use operates on a Windows except Final Cut.

try running premiere pro on your mac right now? No need to switch if you dont like it

I personally like my PC and Vegas set up. Then again it's only good with a nice processor and lots of RAM. Other than that I would say it's choice on which to use.

I love running final cut pro on my mac, and honestly i've never ever seen a pc boot up as quickly, or open a program as fast, or run as smoothly as a mac. As far as video editing is concerned, I think mac has to be the way to go, even if you use premiere. If you are concerned about upgrading your computer there are ways to do it, and mac pros are very accessible/customizable, if you have the cash :\

and if you run vegas right now, stop using it and start to learn how to use FCP, Premiere, etc. They have so many advantages and useful features that don't take long to pick up on.

Yea premiere and FCP have so many advantages over vegas. But, vegas is pretty snappy sometimes. Really though, i dont think its worth getting a mac just to run FCP on it. If you really just wanna do that then its Hackintosh FTW.

There are tons of laptops with better specs than the top of the line Macbook Pro. I like FCP, but it isn't hardware accelerated, so Premiere CS5 has an advantage over it in terms of sheer performance (and in my opinion they are about the same in terms of editor control). They both get destroyed by Avid, though, which can run on both Mac or PC.

Really, it comes down to what editing program you prefer to use. You can build a powerful laptop to run just about anything these days.
