Why are line skis so short?

Very few of their park models come in 181. Why?

most skiers smoke pot at a young age so they dont grow and ski companies that are for park dont need to make big skis really but i am pretty sure on3p goes into 180's but idk for park

perhaps because their 178 models measure out to 180? and also it seems like people think having longer skis proves they are better skiers. i mean look at the pros every one is rocking the longest size of their skis even though some are as short as 5'6. its honestly a huge mental/ego thing. try skis that aarent to the top of your head sometime its pretty cool

you should be playing football.  anyway look to other companies line does things their own way, maybe they shouldn't have gotten rid of the elizabeth and the anthem but they did. also,  someone said it, on3p makes 181 blue steeles, rowen was them [i think] in b/s/t a few days ago, look in his threads because you can get them for cheap. (can't remember all the details so some of it could be wrong)

also, line makes fairly wide park skis elizabeth, anthem (both gone, i know) and the afterbangs are a little wider, but not much, than the average, and a wider ski allows you to get it in a shorter lenth, so if you get like 95+ waisted park skis, you don't need it in a 184, you can go down into the 170s.  but again its personal preference, i don't like wide park skis but i'm 5'10 so i have a lot of options.  6'5", 210 is a gift for every sport except skiing, but it just limits your options

I was simply asking NS if they knew why Line skis ran on the shorter side.

I'm not looking to buy skis.

thats such a sack of bull shit, being 6'2", lizzies felt WAY to short, same with 178 anthems/abangs. finally line is listening to people and making the step up in a 184

Go check their new site ( http://lineskis.com ), both the Step-Up (184), and Chronic Cryptonite (183) are 180+ this year. If you notice, the shorter ones (Afterbang and Mastermind) are softer than the longer ones, if you take a soft ski and make it long, then tend to get REALLY noodley and even rocker out (take a look at other companies too, no one really sells a 180+ soft park ski - they're all medium or stiff), I mean, the old THalls used to be almost impossible to ride at 181 until they stiffened them up a bit. So now they're offering their stiffer models in longer sizes so people who want long skis from them can get them - they even offer a long symmetrical park ski.

Think about the normal curve.

90% of people are between the heights of say, 5'6"-6'2". (I'm 6'2' and ride 176 chronics... they're absolutely fine). Obviously for you at 6'5" your too big for a 176.

Why bother making a length that only 5% of the market will buy, you can't benefit from economies of scale if you get that "niche".

Line is a successful ski company, they know what they're doing and every decision is done for a reason. If making longer skis isn't economically viable for them, they won't do it. I think line makes skis for your "average" skier. And, their skis do measure longer than they are.

But yeah, things are changing with their new 183/4s.

On a side note, Henrik Harlaut seems to ride enormously long skis for his height (what is he, like 5'4" or something). I don't see the point in long park skis personally. It's just more weight to try and work with and much more rotational inertia.

If I was to buy an all mountain/pow ski, then yeah I'd want it to be 182+.

I have 176 chronics too and i measured them yesterday, they are 172-173cm.
Thats way to short for someone 6,2, you should be riding something 178+ at least.
And the point in long skis is that its much much more stable, sure if you are just starting out in park or you just not that good yet you can get shorter skis. I am 5,10 and riding 181 pipe cleaners and they feel like the perfect size. But i guess its all personal preference.

Yeah for sure, all personal preference. I think I prefer a slightly turnier shorter ski. I'm relatively skinny at 165lbs so that points me towards a slightly shorter ski too.

I think it depends how you measure the skis as to what length you get. I have no idea on the official method, but when running from tip to tip on the base side, my chronics measure exactly 176 and my 178 anthems measure 180. So the chronics are either bang on or slightly short and the anthems are either slightly long or bang on.

So I take back what I said about Lines measuring longer.

My chronics come up to the top of my ear and the anthems are at my forehead, so they fit well really.

Although I do advocate longer park skis, that is a complete over statement.

I think something in the 182-186 rang is perfect larger person's park ski. I think I be buyin chronic 184s or perhaps blends to use in the park.....tempting

I am 5'11" and ride 181 chronics. I don't want to ride anything shorter (besides my lizzies). I don't ride longer skis because I think its cool. Line stopped making their skis in teh 180 range because they said that there was little to no market for it, which they were completely wrong and it backfired. When they stopped, threads were popping up like crazy asking line to make longer sizes again because there si a demand for them.

why do people insinuate that people are fat im 6'4" and only 156 lbs, they do need to have longer skis, because the average person is 5'11" and their perfect size would be 181 and 182

I'm 5'6'' and I wouldn't consider myself chubby (altough everyone around me claims I'm in denial). I think they make their skis shorter because they are more of a jibbing oriented company and therefore you will want shorter skis to jib. How many points do I get?
