First cars

so newschoolers, ive been working my ass off all year, and picked up a second job for the summer, and realized i had nothing to be working towards, and nothing to do with all my money. so recently i've decided to buy my first car. all things go as planned, ill be licensed in september, but i decided to start looking now. and i am in no way car savvy, so please be gentle with the verbal ass kickings, and any help is greatly appreciated.

first option: bmw 323i. guy would let it go for $4500. all the specs are on the (hopefully clicky) link

next: i just stumbled upon this, looks great, low mileage, etc. and come one, its pretty sexy.

im really looking at a lot vdubs, they are very moderately priced, seem to be solid cars, and get some nice gas mileage. im now leaning towards the volkswagens because a beemer, although sick, would have outrageous repair fees.

any input/suggestions would be awesome. i cant afford anything over $5,000 and i am looking for a manual.

Yeah me too. Body kits are cool and all, but to do it right, with paint, not just a bomb can either costs alot more than 1g, maybe 3g's at least

Buy something like a Honda Civic that is reliable. If you buy something like a beamer or audi for $5,000 its going to have lots of miles on it and start going to shit real quick

or go for an older volvo, pretty reliable as well, and late 80s some of em were rwd, fun shit in the snow.

shep at mtn. soul spent 1100 on brakes, when i did brakes on my truk i spent about 300, new cylinders, drums, pads, disks etc.

remember cars are for transportation, you don't want to get a car that looks sweet but you spend thousands fixing it. my first car i got for free and sold it for a grand, it was a standard toyota wagon and it was sick, my current car is a 94 volvo 240, bad on gas but its at 333000kms and i havent had any significant problems, i also drive a yaris and a volvo xc70, and the extra 40 grand isnt worth it, go cheap and go volvo, use your money for school or weed

gas... well first get a standard car because they have better mileage, second whether you drive a prius or a truck gas usage is directly correlated with how fast you drive and accelerate, don't choose a car because it has 5mpg better gas mileage because your driving style will be the biggest influence

also you live in the states where gas is still cheap, in vancouver gas is around 4.30 /gal

yea i ment 1 grand for good wheels and spoiler, possiably window tint, a place by me cost 200$ for any color with a lifetime warrenty and he has a ton of experience, a good set of wheel cost around 6 hundro and spoliers you can find cheap depending on what style you want

for that price (4500-5k) you can pick up like a 2006-07 crown vic interceptor.  but i would just take like 2k and buy a 01-02 with under 100k miles.  don't be a wimp, get the p71 police model.   best car ever.  soooo many shenanigans ensue while driving this car.  You can floor the car at around 30-35 and it will chirp the tires as it shifts the gears up thats how much power it lays down.  you will  jump it, crash into snowbanks, drive like an idiot and have an awesome time.  bonus,  if you have a shitty car everyones like aight, its a shitty car.   if you own a crown vic interceptor everyone is stoked on your shitty car.   extra bonus.  Your car is bulletproof.  Best car ever.

i know what an avalon looks like, and i know that it would look retarded with a wing and more gold. thats retarded, it would look like complete shit. i dont know why people think that adding ugly ass shit to their car makes it look good. plus its a fucking avalon, that shits too boring for my grandma, you cant make it look sporty by adding some fag wing, mexi -rims, gold trim or a body kit. it will only look dumb as fuck.

first they dont make body kits for avalons, second im only putting in a factory replacement spoiler not the big as universal ones, third i gurentee your car is not any better nor any faster, then again your probally only some dumb ass 12 year old that trys to act tuff shit online and dont even drive

ha you could buy something for 2 or 3 grand and have something much better and faster.
i like toyota, they make good cars, but im just saying its stupid to try to make such a non sporty car like that look cool. cause in the end its just gonna look like a joke, or like some mexican got a hold of it.

the avalon is the highest end of the line for luxuary cars for toyota, and yea you could buy something thats faster then it for 3 grand but your going to have to put in about another 4 grand to make it in drivable condition

And t-dubb, avalons are not made to be sporty. Yes rims would look nice on it ill give you that, but spoiler and whatever else you want to put on it, no

i never knew klids on NS were such idiots, once again a factory replacement spolier, when you buy new car you have packages you can get, sport, luxuary, sound, touring, and so on, this car did not get the package which included the spoiler so im buying the spoiler that would come in the package, not some big as spoiler that raise 2 feet ment for drag and wind dirrectional, this is what is going on my car

ok a factory replacement is ok, still a waste of money imo, cause its still an avalon.  as for wheels, on a car like that, they have to be very factory looking to look good, anything sporty looking even if they are cool wheels, just look dumb and out of place on a car like that, especially if they are gold or black white, chrome or some color other than silver.

and there are plenty of cars that you could find for 2-3 that would drive great with no work and still be faster.  you just have to know what your looking for. 
not saying the avalon, is a bad car, just saying its not a sports car, so dont think it is.  its comfortable and reliable, thats about it.

You are dumb. No one cares about a small factory spoiler on an Avalon. If you want to get wheels for it, thats fine, but do not get gold wheels and gold tint. That shit is just stupid. And yes, i know what an Avalon is and i guarantee both cars I have owned were much faster than that.

i have a 1997 toyota avalon xl with 178,000 miles on it and the thing is still fucking tits. it has a bench seat in the front and is just the comfiest car.

buy a cheap civic or corolla and call it a day.

the engines are virtually bomb proof.

there was a group of mechanics who took a 1.8L honda engine removed all the oil from it, filled the oil pan with water and went and red lined the bitch and the engine didn't die. enough said. first car? honda or toyota hands down.

have fun paying to fix a beemer that costs 4500, don't buy a car just to say i have a BMW, get a different car with half the miles and will be astronomically cheaper to fix, the only down side, you cant tell people you have a BMW.  There's nothing i hate more that people claiming there benzes and beemers and when you seen them there 18 years old with 110 hp and rusted threw body...not saying that's you man i just know way to many people who do it

if you wana spend 4500, you could look into cars in the lows 5's which after haggling you'll be able to get at a 45 spot.  I was in your shoes a few years ago, totaled my first car, then got a 99 saab 93 for 4900 with 100,000 on it... had a bunch of problems at first now im at 162 and its running great

you do know the avalon was ment to be a high end luxary car like a lexus or acura, if it was ment to be an economy car it would not have a v6 and 3.0l engine, i have a very strong feeling that your one of those kids who dont know shit about cars and try to act like you do on the internet
