I also have a JVC and it does the trick quite well. Just decide whether you want a 1 CCD camera (cheaper) or a 3 CCD camera (best quality) and go from there. Go to the stores and get a feel for the different brands. Once you decide how much cash you have to spend get the one you like the most in that price range.

JVC have the best camreas to start out with i got a jvc dvr-300 andits fuckin dope.. strap a wideangle too it and your set.. once you get more serious and get enough go for canon gl1 or xl1 or also the sony vx2000 is pretty sick. Definetly go with jvc if your going for a cam under 1k. Mini Dv ofcourse. The qaulity of the jvc match up with alot of the high end camreas, but you dont have as much control over the image, but then again you can always go into premiere.

I agree with Schwags, I have a wide angle for my JVC and it's super cool for pipe and rail footage. Plus, mine has a light built in - which doesn't seem to be a big deal but it saves you having to go out and buy one after you've already dropped a grand on the camera.

If you got money and its gonna be digital then get a sony vx2000 or a cnaon gl1 with a fisheye and wideangle
