yeah thats right. I have way to much peny-up energy and I have to find a creative outlet. I've been kind of having a manic episode lately so it seems like a good time to start. after exams I'm going to start researching some ideas and putting stuff on paper. what do people look for in a good book (porn mags not included)?

i used to have a reoccuring dream about waking up from my life and realizing all existance was really just a coma and reality is way different. i think that could make for an interesting topic

you better make the real world fucking interesting. I always have thoughts about how crazy it owuld be if you were an experiment and your whole life was being run by someone and when you are doing private stuff everyone is watching and like your thoughts are being monitored and yoru friends are robots or whatever... it might be interesting. Think about how uncomfortable and insane it would be to slowly realise something like that. Thc character would be so alone it might be interetsing I dont know.

waking life? i've never heard of it. but im sure any orignal idea a writer comes up with now a days would have been already done in some form or another already. I have plenty of ideas anyway i guess you just kind feel it when the right idea comes along.

You have to have really good characters people can relate to within a few pages. And try not to be too descriptive, jump right into the action at the begininng (if you had any 'action' planned out). Im not a writer or anyhing, but this is what I look for in a book.

^ no definatly. i agree. im no write either and maybe ill write a screenplay instead cause im a movie buff more then a book work. but yeah its insanely hard to write good beliveable characters in only a few pages and then jump right into action. i think the key is a start with momentum and a great ending.

why are you asking us? this is the worst way to come up with ideas for a book. a writer should come up with their own ideas (this includes adaptations of personal real life events). i don't mean to undermine your momentum, but dude you shouldn't have to ask what people look for in a book. one day i plan on being a filmmaker, i'd never ask 'so, guys what makes an entertaining movie.' i'd just get laughed at. my point is find creativity within yourself.

no, i know what I look for in a book. im just making a conversive thread. is that ok? or should i make a thread on something else thats been covered hundreds of times already. drugs, religion, bush, etc. ... no fuck that.

no i understand i agree imput is important. i'm just saying come up with the core idea on your own. when i try to think of movie premises, or scene playout, it doesn't come to me. but when i'm in the right frame of mind it fucking clicks and you know you've got gold. but you're kind of doing this thing backward. usually people come up with some idea before they become determined to write a book. take your time it'll come.

no i agree totall. im in that frame of mind lately and stuff is just clicking. i have my own ideas. a few i think could have good, entertaining plots. stuffs clicking, but input is always good, especially for character development, plot twists, etc. and just to see what people think. oh and by book im also thinking screenplay, something ive always wanted to write.

My real advice would be to write a short story using one of pretty good ideas, but save your best idea until you are confident you can use its full potential. Also, give us a sample of it we can better critique it.
