Custom Rocker

So here is the set up im using to rocker some old public enemies

So these are just old PE's i don't use anymore and would pretty much give away, so i'm not to worried about them not holding up.

Anyway I lack a heat gun but have been using big pots of hot water to add heat every once in a while in addition to leaving them out in the heat.  I pretty much have until december before i even see a pow day to use these, so time is not an issue.  What do you guys think, this rig look pull off-able? 

I was thinking that using straps attatched to the tips and tails with tension pulling them towards each other would be the best improvement i could make on this.

heat guns are cheap if you want to buy one. you can even have one delivered from amazon:

looks like it could work, i think getting enough heat would be the main issue, but you do have a lot of time so it might actually work, i think youll atleast make them pretty noodle-y

and yeah $20 isnt bad for a gun but im suuuuuuper cheap

your gonna have to have heat, alot. i tried to rocker some old invaders and used an iron on them and the rockered a lil but it didnt stay

Yah, heat gun is your best bet. But you will also need some cold. Heat = soften core, more flexible, bend into rocker easily. Cold = harden the core again

if you go to ace or menards you might be able to get a heat gun for $10 or less on sale. if i remember(and this is no guarantee) but when one of the high end heat guns i use in the lab doesn't hold it's max heat anymore i'll PM ya and you can have it for just the few bucks to ship it. good luck though with the current setup and keep updating the pics.

looks sick, not sure if it matters but i wrapped all the parts of the wood that touches the skis in duct tape so its not so hard on the top sheets and bases.  but when you think about it, hitting rails and boxes destroys them anyway

jibBandit, how're your top sheets holding up? I've done this a few times with old skis but I haven't really got it consistent enough to trust myself with a new/decent set of sticks

Wouldn't heating/cooling the skis make them more brittle and more likely to snap on the hill?

heating the skis allows the skis to bend more easy into the rocker shape, and the cold helps it stay in the shape.

I think if anything you will just have reverse camber unless you move the brick up and clamp higher up as well. But good idea.

^when he takes the blocks out they will loose quite a bit of camber instantly, thats why he has it so dramatic at the moment

Idk if its been said but somebody rockered their skis earlier and said that they delaminated pretty quick

depends on the ski. quite alot of guys on tgr rocker their skis, namely old gotomas, BH districts, ect(skis that are built well and wont be damaged much)

park skis is always sketchy though, as they are much thinner and built worse in many cases

I might try rockering my snowblades because they have no meaning to me whatsoever. Idk if theres enough there to rocker without effecting the binding though

How? Doesent everyone have snowblades laying around? I havent used them since I was like 10. It would be kinda fun to do something with them. theyre not the super short ones. But theyre still short

Bring this thread back to life!

I did my snowboard today, and will post photo's tomorrow...

I used a heat gun, but was unsure about how hot to make it.... any suggestions?

I have left it outside to cool overnight.

Depends on what ski. Like mrstskier said a few posts up, It differs between what the construction maybe like.
