waxing

I just started waxing my skis and was wondering if ur suppose to scrape off as much as u can or leave a little on? also do u brush before or after u scrape? im using some all temp dakine wax, which shit is the best?

scrape off what you can with a plexi scraper, its the wax in the pores of the base that make waxing effective. Also, brush after you scrape, you brush the ski to remove the wax buildup from the structure of the ski.

Do a search on wax, you will find some very good guides on what to do, dont bother starting a new one again. And if you started this cos you thought the other threads were old, dont worry, nothing changes that much.

theres a lot of different waxes, probably not much difference between them. Can't go wrong with swix though

Go with a LF wax (low flouro) if your not racing, it's better than standard wax, but not as nice as HF wax (high flouro) which is pretty expensive and only designed for a couple of runs. They also have accelerator waxes that are only designed for about 2 sec. of use and they get you going very fast. Accelerant waxes are very very expensive, and are only useful to very competitive racers.

flouro waxes seem to cause a lot of confusion to people. The higher the moisture content of the snow, the more flouro you want. Understanding the hydrophobic properties ofthe wax and the moisture content of the snow makes picking specific waxes easier. In general, if you are just starting out tuning your own equiptment, just get a decent all purpose wax (no need to break the bank if you are just learning to wax your skis).

And please don't make the mistake I have seen so many times before, learn the differences between waxes, and don't put kick wax on your ski's. Yes I have seen people hot wax with kick wax, and then wonder why their skis aren't moving very well.
