My physiotherapist told me this today if you're hitting jumps on you're skis and when you land you want to land more on the outside of you're foot this will make sure your hip doesn't drop because when your hip drops your knee will bend down and in and that's the main cause for torn Ac L's in skiing. If you already knew this don't rip on me just trying to help out my fellow newschoolers.
Hmmmmm...I don't really understand what you mean. Can you still land flat on your skis while applying pressure to the outside of your foot? Or are you saying to land on the outside edge all together
Okay stand up and jump off something and land normaly with your feet flat and your hip may drop some times causing your knee to also bend in and then jump this time with a bit more weight to the outside of your foot I'm not meaning to land on the outside but just put a bit more weight to the outside of your foot it helps alot trust me.
you'd be better off going to the gym and doing some squats, some lunges and some straight leg dead lifts. Being strong prevents knee injuries, not knee braces.
what? tear your acl? or land with your weight on the outside of you feet? cause acl is in the knee, and i dont know what kind of boots youre using, but ive never seen a boot that offers knee support
yeah theres alot of shit thats crucial that i learnt after blowing my knee that should definetly be common knowledge in skiing cause it goes a long way in keeping your knees safe and strong. Always landing in bend(dont get to into your afterbang shit and land straightlegged), not letting your knees turn in is big too, which means you need a proper fitting boot that doesnt let your arch drop.
Research has shown that using a brace as a preventative measure does not help. If anything it increases chances of injury as you are weaker and relying on the brace. Also, the movements where you blow your knee are generally quite small and happen too fast so again, a brace is not much use.
A brace is pretty much only useful for recovering from an injury.
The only real way to prevent knee injury is to do knee strengthening exercises ect.
Hah, you actually think bindings can keep you from tearing your acl? The pivot bindings, while safer than some bindings, are made to release at higher forces than a recreational binding because they are originally race bindings. So if you fall aquardly you can easily tear youur knee. If your worried go to the gym and work quads and hamstrings, strength prevents injuries more than any binding can.
Uhhh... Using a brace as a preventative measure is the same thing as using it for recovery bro... It's all preventative with a brace, that's why you wear one. But I do agree the best way is to do strengthening exercises for sure! Hard work pays off, especially hamstrings. Huge for ACL's
