Fat-y-Pus A-Lotta's

This is probaly an obvious question to anyone who knows what these skis are, and yes I did look for online reviews besides NS but most of them only cover use on powder (which is what they are made for). but anyay, has anyone used the Fat-y-Pus A-Lotta's on groomers before? What do skis that big ride like when not on powder?



to those who have never seen them... the dimensions are 172/140/150 ... basically 2 snowboards

According to freeskiers gear guide from a couple years ago... reviewers said that these skis had surprisingly good hard snow performance for a ski so wide.

So definitely not the greatest ski for groomers, obviously, but apparently not bad.

ep pros are what, 127 at the waist? so not too much skinnier. they do surprisingly well on groomers. takes a little more work, obviously, to get them up on edge, but its actually pretty fun

i second this, i imagine its just a little more work.

but if youre getting the 190's the website answers your question
"they still have camber underfoot so that they hold a solid edge in any terrain or conditions."

A-Lottas have regular camber and sidecut which would make them rather adept on groomers compared to other rockered and reverse camber pow skis
however the uber wideness would not make them too much fun, they would be super slow and heavy I imagine

I've ridden my friend's, and they do hold an edge pretty well, and are good for bombing. they are pretty heavy though.

Personally. i'd go with a rockered or early rise ski for powder for about the same float, but more managable and fun.

The A-lotta rocker has early rise (not true rocker as the douche at the ski shop in breck was trying to convince me) with the same deminsions i believe.

dude, if its a powder day, you still need to get back to the lift, meaning groomers, and if they suck on the groomers, it wont be a fun ski.

I've heard that they are a pain in the ass on groomers... There are also much better pow skis out there(reasonably priced)

well if you're just riding a fat ski on a groomer to get to the lift, it will be fine. it's not like they just won't work on a groomer, they just aren't meant to perform exceptionally well on groomers.

this is just my .02 but why would anyone anywhere need a ski that wide? based on my experience, a rockered ski rides a lot better than an equally big regular camber ski. my ep's and chetlers and my friends bents were all pretty fun on the groomers because they skied short and they are still narrow enough to get them on edge without throwing yourself into the turn. plus you can mount them up nearly center or center and still ride pow. i'd buy rocker unless you are going to hike with em or ride backcountry stuff. but then a ski this wide seems like it would be a total PITA to keep control of in a place like the chugach. don't kill me tho this is just a thought.

even if you are going to hike, there is no reason NOT to get rockered skis for powder. you can get the best combination of camber and rocker as well with a ski like the armada JJ's, Rossignol S7's, or Atomic Bentchetlers. i have skied both the JJ's and Rossis. You can get a ski with a combo of both in a size in the 180's (i am 5' 8", 150) that will ski short when you want and long when you want. go with rocker and fat, not camber and ultra fat

Totally, i hear what you are saying,

But last season i had a pair of MOMENT COMI's, and it was the stiff version, meaning it had the extra layer or fiberglass, but it also had no rocker (not very fun, but the new versions have rocker, so its cool now)

However, on pow days, getting back to the lift could not have been MORE FUN!!

They were like my old Atomic M2trons, and since that had regular camber, side cut, and were stiff as HELL, they plowed through ANYTHING, and could make crazy turns, even on a 160 tipped ski.

IT WAS INCREDIBLE.

However i do NOT recommend this ski for alot of people, unless you want a challenge skiing.


Because these skis probably weighed close to 11 pounds (unmounted) then the guy i bought it from (NPG) had mounted Salomon 916's, so all metal, barely anything plastic on them, which equaled a 20 pound, non-rockered ski, so they were quite the hand fun, and I'am no where near manly enough to use them, so i sold them and I'm waiting on Billy Goats, right now, to mount some FKS 140 XXL's, for powder Skis, so im going from the heaviest pow setup to not the lightest, but a heck of alot better than they were before.
