Amazing work... What kind of stabilizer do you use for those smooth shots? do you edit the shots to smooth them in post??

1:38 was a zeiss 35 on a 7d.  its got like crazy minimum dof and hence thin dof.  love the combo!

as for the smooth shots freestyle, i use the steadicam pilot.  it is the lightest and most affordable full body steadicam rig that is available.  considering that these hdslrs are so small, these are the perfect rigs for my needs.  i would think that for skiing tho a glidecam is just as good, if not safer!

i want to thank you for taking the time to share your insight with us. it always brightens my day to see that someone like you from the filming community willing to help out others so willing. thats the stuff that makes it rewarding to be a part of, if i'm even aloud to say that about myself.

also, i want to say that you've obviously quite a talent for evoking emotion to an audience from such a meaningful time for people. keep up the great work.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

extremely amazing video- not to thread jack but what are some skiing edits shot with a 7d- I know Team Canadas was shot with a HDSLR but I dont know with which one?


I know this is Prophetmatt- he shot it with a t2i I believe

That was a 7D and anything else my michael clarke is a 7D. If you havent already seen his 'Just passing thru' its all shot with it and its amazing.

alright so i'm still trying to figure this out. the t2i and 7d have been said to have "similar" video, but if i get the t2i will there be a noticible difference? i just want to know if the video is identical or not, and if not how the t2i doesn't match up. i figure with all this 7d knowledge in this thread someone ought to know.

From what I understand the main difference in video is the ISO levels and WB.  The 7D has more ISO levels that you can choose from.  There is a plugin for after effects/premiere/fcp that im looking in to thats called neat video.  Seems to do wonders!!

it is totally possible to get t2i footage to come VERY close to a 7d.  as others have pointed out the sensor in terms of video fucntinons the same, just some settings are less flexible.

neat video is ridiculous!!!!  its awesome!

when i got started there were tons and tons of doubters, and i was amazed by the work that my heroes and idols in my industry were doing.  now i headline workshops with all those same groups.

we are all just regular ppl with dreams, so i say shoot for them and dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

oh also just a quick question to everyone. If i get the 7D with only the canon 24-105 f4 IS lens, is that good enough, or might i need another lens? the cheapest I can find that lens for is $1000, and with the body thats $2600, plus ill need a new tripod and a glidecam, so i dont think i could spend much more than that. are there any other cheaper comparable lenses?

depends on what you want. I'll be looking to snag a 17-40L later. Not as much telephoto, but I bet it would be better suited for glide cams and follows.
