I know there are some ns'ers who are familiar with this series. I read Enders game last year and now I'm reading speaker for the dead. What others should I read and what order should I read them in?
Nah, its definitely readable in 4th grade. That is when I read it the first time also. I have since read it 2 or 3 more times, and I comprehend more each time.
I remember reading the redwall series in elementary school, didn't understand most of it though. Going back to it later I've realized it's an awesome series
Xenocide will piss you off because it gets really crazy and you just want to know what happens, so you will read Children of the Mind.
That's as far as I made it, Enders game was by far the best. The other books in the series are low in action and high in moral struggles, plus some crazy shit starts happening that is a little hard to accept. Ender also gets married to one of my most hated characters in any piece of literature. You can tell Card didn't put the thought that he did in Ender's games in the other books.
great series. also read them all in about 4th grade or so and continue to reread them all the time. Like previously said enders game was the best but I also enjoyed enders shadow a lot.
I copmletely have to disagree, enders game was great, but I loved the rest just so much more. The others brought my love of Card as a writer to a whole new level.
I have actually heard this (from my friend, but he looks into this type of thing alot) that Speaker for the dead was the book card wanted to write, but he had to make a book before that for everything to make sense.
Overall, IMO, speaker for the dead is my favorite book.
ya, as far as plot goes the other books are great, I was referring to the writing which is much better in Enders Game.
Speaker for the dead was going to be stand alone and not have ender in it at all but he decided to just put him in the story.
I really like some of his Sci-Fi ideas. Third life, relativistic travel, a computer that gains life. I just didn't like Novina, she is a bitch, and the other books in the series start showing Cards crazy religious beliefs.
Enders game had characters I could connect with, the other novels the characters seams so distant. Always brooding and whining, and Ender no longer controls situations. I know he feels bad for killing an alien race but that doesn't mean he still can't lay down the hammer every once in a while.
