2010 world cup anthem

well if you didn't already know the anthem of the 2010 fifa world cup is waving flag by: K'naan

I was pretty syked when i heard it was going to be used, but then i heard the remake....

i don't know about you guys but i was quite mad that they remade a prefectly good song

Not sad about that because its not really a remake of a song if Knaans just collaborating with someone... Also not sad that they used it as the World Cup anthem... Why are you? If you look at it from Knaans point of view then you would probably realize that whats important to Knaan is empathy for impoverished peoples of the world, global peace and unity. Too me the World Cup is one of the better stages for a song like that to be featured, and Im sure Knaan knows that and is not ashamed that his piece of music is now the most heard song all over the world... No hate, just settin' it straight..

K'naan is Canadian yo. He was born in i think Somalia and moved to Toronto when he was around 10.

Can someone explain to me what he means when he says

because i honestly think  'who calls a waving flag freedom? and whats going back?' everytime i hear that song. it would make my day if someone cleared that up.

The waving flag part makes sense. Its a symbol of your country and your freedom. If you were under control of another country they would not let you hoist that flag..you would hoist their flag. Putting up your own waving flag represents your liberty to host something of yours, thus freedom. I'm not sure if that makes sense...

I don't get the going back part either though.

All of his songs are about Africa. He is talking about african democracy and freedom from violence. The chorus is basically saying that Africans have achieved freedom and democracy, and every time it degrades into the tribal warfare that makes africa the biggest shithole on the planet. They 'go back' to their old violent savage ways.
