Every big road trip I seem to flip them on here and there. Some of it is way to shitty, But for some reason I like a bunch of it. I find the lyrics kind of funny, but I don't know what is about it that attracts me. It's quality shit.

What's happen lately in the world of Christian music? I see some Christian people poppin up in thread all the time. Where's my heady jams at?


Threw on K love and Air 1 for a bit on a road trip a couple weeks ago. Some of the tunes are good, some of them are horrible and the stories they tell on those radio stations can be pretty amusing or straight up what.

Just trying to see what's good in 2014.

The band Hillsong always used to be a contemporary worship band but they totally change up their style of music recently. Some of their new music has a Muse/M83 vibe to it and they changed their name to Hillsong United.

I grew up listening to a lot of crappy Christian music and was really put off by the whole genre for a long time, but there has some decent stuff put out in the last few years. Sorry for the huge post. Hopefully they all work.

I'm a big fan of Josh Garrels these days. Pretty chill. "Love and War and the Sea In Between" is up there with my favourite albums.

Exactly. They'll all put a lot of money into recording/producing, but the music is shit in the form of quality. Old school Black Keys is like shitty quality.

Funny thread to read. I am a christian who listens to christian music kind of in the same way you do. I find it fun, especially on road trips to listen to a few songs. A lot of it is just really easy to listen too, it's so soft and undefined that you can just kind of tune it out. Some of it is legitimately really good music, but most of it is just run of the mill pop with Jesus substituted in for the singer's girlfriend. In my town there is a big christian music block party every summer that sometimes has some decent musicians. As far as christian rap goes it is pretty hard to take any of it seriously but it can be kind of fun to listen too. Lecrae has done some decent music, especially since his switch to becoming a more mainstream musician. Also got to work with Propaganda on a video project over break, his music is not really my type but the guy is awesome to work with and has an incredible attitude, just stoked on everything.

So yeah, in summary, christian music can be pretty terrible or pretty good, most of the time it is just really soft and nebulous which makes it good easy listening music.

I didn't know mutemath was christian. Saw them open for another band in 07. Was skeptical at first but they were pretty cool.

I've heard of hill song united, probably heard some of it through family but don't really know any. I'll listen to these at some point today. Thanks for the recommendations.


My buddy gave me a CD called enter the worship circle I thought was pretty solid.

What I like about christian music is all the feeling it has. The sense of purpose. The problem I get when listening to those stations is that "christian music" is more of a topic than a genre. Hearing christians attempt at bad pop music etc is a tun off. I kind of miss being young and going to camp and singing songs and really feeling that it was all real and stuff. Maybe I don't miss it completely but it still has a place in my heart you know?

Bad Christian pop is awful. Also (maybe it hasn't been your experience) I absolutely can't stand the dj's on Christian radio stations. I don't like dj's to begin with, but it's just another level of bad on Christian stations.

If your looking for stuff with more feeling, try Bellarive, Phil Wickham, Chris Tomlin or David Crowder Band. (I'm on mobile, so can't embed videos right now).

For sure. Sometimes it's bad to the point it's almost good. Although small doses are the key.

I've heard Chris Tomlin And David Crowder Band. I've never heard of the other two but I'll check them out.

I still have a ton of christian/positive music on my ipod from when I was younger and it was all I listened to. Stuff like Switchfoot, Hawk Nelson, Reliant K, The Almost, Audio Adrenaline, etc. Most of it doesn't directly say stuff like "jesus I love you" or prayer verse songs, but it is just positive stuff. After the shooting at my school, it was about 75% of what I listened to for a couple weeks and I just felt better about stuff. I don't know if it was linked directly to the music or if it was just that I was getting my mind of of things but I think it could have/did help me in my "healing process" that everyone says that people need to have after an experience like that.

Although, when I am in the car with my parents they insist we listed to the christian radio stations and it is so amazingly horrible, poppy, modern, mainstream-copy, mind-numbing stuff.

WAs getting down hard today for a few songs. Then it got all super mainstream. The christian version of that coldplay song I don't like forced me to change it.

I want to be in a Christian rock band. Not even joking. Wanted to for years. There's something about it. Even if you don't believe it the way it's supposed to mean something kind of almost means something and feels really good.

I would have though it would have worn off. Maybe some of it has. Maybe it's more nostalgia idk. But I can get the fuck down.

Christian road trip jams. Haters gonna hate, but be gonna love em because we gots the JEsus.

I drove 50k miles in my car this year. Quite a few all night+ drives. Some 30+ hour straight drives solo.

Definitely liked some of the areas where you can find ridiculous amounts of heady christian jams on the radio everywhere.

Just got a pandora station.

I've been to kingdom bound in ny 3 or 4 times years ago.

Would just be funny to be decked out in full wook apparel. Long hair, tie dye, a heady wrap, and just raging for jesus.
