For my english final I needed to do a heroic quest and I did it on skiing. Here it is:
Elements of the Heroic Quest: Saving Tanner Hall
At the Dew tour qualifications a new and upcoming skier named Bobby Hall was competing extremely well. Everyone was shocked as he did the first double cork in the halfpipe. Later, he was talking to his coach, the famous Michael Douglas about competing. Michael Douglas was also his father, only not biologically. After Bobby won the halfpipe gold, Michael Douglas decided it was time to tell Bobby about his real father, Tanner Hall. When Bobby was four, him and Tanner were skiing the backcountry in Sweden. Alone. Locals kidnapped Tanner, as they wanted skiing entertainment. Bobby was stranded in the mountains, but managed to survive for a little more than a week. During this time, he had to fight off the fierce Redbull. Bobby stabbed it in the eyes with his poles, and it fled. This incident is the reason he skis with no poles. He will forever have the disadvantage of skiing with no poles and will have to work extra hard to keep up with his competitors. After enduring a week in the mountains, Bobby was found by Michael Douglas, who was filming a movie. Since Bobby was such a good skier, Michael Douglas decided to raise him as his own. Many skiers have attempted rescuing Tanner Hall, but the locals took them too. One day, King of the locals Jon Olsson received a sign in the snow that read: “Beware of one with no poles.” At the same time, Bobby was filming in California, and found out about a contest by Redbull to recover their main skier, Tanner Hall, and Bobby’s dad. Redbull decided to host a competition for the golden skis, which had the perfect specifications for the Swedish backcountry. They would also only work for a skier who is worthy. The contest was held in Utah, and in the finals included Tom Wallisch and Bobby Hall. Wallisch had a good run, but Bobby took what he learned from Michael Douglas and had the best run of his life, beating Wallisch and obtaining the golden skis. Unfortunately, after the day of skiing on Bobby’s last run, he had a bad fall. He was ready to give up skiing, but Michael Douglas reminded him of his destiny and reassured him. The next day, Bobby and Michael took a plane to Sweden and at the airport Michael Douglas had to leave Bobby to do a film session with Salomon. Before he left he gave Bobby some advice: “Bring a shovel with you into the backcountry.” After making it to Sweden, he manages to find the location of the kidnappers. They are located in Are, Sweden and Bobby sets out on his snowmobile to the top of the mountain. He navigates himself around the trees and rocks of the mountain, and stops when he sees a snow-camper under a tree. This man tells Bobby where to locate the locals that killed Tanner. When Bobby heads in that direction, he goes into an area with trees that are close to each other. Trying to navigate through, he bumps one and gets cascaded by snow. Luckily, he listened to Michael Douglas and brought a shovel. Bobby approached the local’s village in the dark and found Tanner sleeping in a cabin. He took him from the camp, and was told there were other skiers kidnapped, like Candide Thovex. Suddenly, the locals woke up and started chasing after Tanner and Bobby. Bobby was so focused on getting away, he skid off a seventy-foot cliff to his death. (#15) Although Bobby died, he saved his father, the best skier ever. Tanner went on to win his son’s memorial competition, and is now on a mission to rescue the other skiers from where he was kidnapped.
