It's not the flopping; it's the officials that allow the flopping to succeed. 

FIFA needs to get their shit straight because the officiating in the couple of games I've watched has been absolutely terrible.  It's embarassing really.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say watching 90 minutes of game for 2 goals gets a bit boring IMO. Never was a huge soccer fan though.

I think its the fact that a ref can say "no goal" and not give any reason and everyone has to just go along with it. Can you imagine if that happened in an American Playoff football game? A guy scores the winning touchdown and the ref is like "nah. no good" then just walks off the field. There would be riots.

I have gotten more into the world cup this year than any other year but I am getting pretty turned off by the retarded South Africans blowing their plastic horns and calling it culture, the constant flopping, the poor referee skills, FIFA's Hitler like dominance of the sport, the lack of a set game time, the fact that there can be ties, and the obvious negative US bias in the judging of the matches.

The worst thing this year is:

A:Some of the officials. they have disallowed clear goals, and called phantom calls where there were no fouls, and given cards to players who were defending some idiot who took a dive and writhed on the ground like an idiot for 10 minutes.

B: the Ball. I've messed about with it and it feels cheap and hard to even have a kick about with it... When you hit it, it doesnt curve or anything, it just launches into outer space. It doesnt fly straight even... if you hit it like you'd normally hit it low, it still goes flying up into the heavens. I feel like it has helium in it or something, half the time...

Doesnt surprise me that half the players out there (especially the ones who arent affiliated with Addidas) have said that its a pain in the ass to make crosses with and freekicks... Notice nobodys scored on a freekick thats been shot on net?

Other than that, i've been very pleased with it. USA and England went through like they should, and the USA topped their group like they deserved to do after they had goals taken away.

France's internal issues killed them.. Italy's geriatric issues killed them... Either England or Germany is out after this next stage... Worldbeaters are falling left and right... And its stoking me out!

I'd love for once to see a team that hasnt win a world cup - take it home... Somebody who either deserves one (Hint? Orange) or somebody who comes out totally hot this year and for once shows up on the world stage.

The vuvuzela bee attack seems to have gotten less in some matches. I even heard the English chants most of the England Algeria game.

good! itll just make it easier to blast knucklers at poor unsuspecting goalies. shots that curve in (as opposed to out, or knuckle) are for fags anyway!

and people saying they cant stand 90 minutes with only a couple goals, i can feel that, but thats part of what i like about soccer, scoring is a big fucking deal

Flops are the worst thing about soccer period. The thing with the ball though.....IDK, it does seem to be fucking with people for sure. Its an equal disadvantage across the board though so whatever.

I can drown out vuvezelas on my tv by messing with the eq anyway, and in the pub there is too much yelling so you can't even hear them.

Refs should just get more trigger happy with throwing out yellow cards for flops, and less trigger happy about throwing out yellow cards for....everything else.

The other day I was watching basketball and the announcers were talking about how they should make flops a penalty in that sport too.

No. It doesnt even knuckle really, because there is absolutely zero drag on the ball - seemingly. It would be fine if it was like the germany +teamgeist, which knuckled horrendously and was actually pretty effin awesome in my opinion.

It follows an absolutely straight path, and you cant hit it straight and low very well. It wants to either bounce like a ping pong ball, or it wants to go into orbit lol.

the fact they go 90 minutes without a goal is what i like about soccer. it makes the goals exciting and a big deal. in basketball for example, its not about who makes a basket, but who misses them that really decides the game. in soccer you have to plan it out and be absolutely perfect to get it by the other team, and when you finally do you get to go nuts.

as for the ball issue, i havent played with it, but i can see your point because of the usa v algeria game when beasley blew it over the net on an easy finish.

I dont remember the South Korea one... But thats likely because That's one of the few games I havent seen haha.

And this was written before the japan game. Notice, on Japans freekick goals... The first one was lobbed in (rather impressively - this ball dives out of the air like a dead bird - see Japan's first goal against Denmark, and Australia's goal against cameroon) and the second one? well.. I dont know how the hell it curved in so well, it had very little spin on the ball... it was like magic or something...



Either way. I guess my point about the ball is quite moot. It's round, and it rolls. The end.



I hope that the knockout round has much better referees though...

I love soccer, and the one thing thats always pissed me off is the diving. especially when they stay down and then get up and are fine for the rest of the match.

they should really start showing yellows for excessive dives, and try to get it out of the game.

i dont mind if they get tackled and fall to try and get the call, its when they roll around on the ground and the cluth a body part that is obviously not hurt.

But the best part is that France and Italy out in the group stage and Germany will be next

Pretty much. A buddy of mine refs AYSO through High School and I always tell him to do that shit. Pisses me off so much when the ref throws a yellow card because some guy got tripped and started whining like a baby, then when you watch the replay the guy making the tackle OBVIOUSLY made complete full contact with the ball. There was one in the England Algeria game yesterday. The ball practically rolled up his leg and made contact with everything from his toe to his knee, it was ridiculous.

I am not a fan of flopping by any means, but the reason most players flop is not to just stop play its to protect themselves. It allows them to control them game and not get to out of hand

flopping is only half to try to draw penalties. since soccer is running time, they players get no time to take a break. but if one of their teammates rolls around on the ground, claiming to be hurt, they get a chance to take a breather.

That and some of the ridiculous diving. One time on a slow-mo replay this guy got tackled, he jumps into the air, first thing he does is grab his calf, while he's in the air, and he got tackled from the front

what pisses me off so much about the diving is it would be so easy to solve-just go crazy with yellow cards any time anyone stays down too long. its obvious that they all dive if the reffs reward them with a free kick that could give them a goal which is so hard to get in world cup play, so stop rewarding them. fifa has some issues

I think part of the reason america isn't as amped on soccer as the rest of the world is because americans need instant satisfaction: a big hit, a 3 pointer, a goal, a fight. Think about all the major sports in america football, hockey, basketball, lax , somethings huge is always about to happen. Part of the beauty of soccer is the skill and determination it takes to orchestrate a play in order to have a chance at scoring, therefor the near misses become as exciting as the brilliance of the play as the field and goals become the climax of excitement. but i agree

the flopping needs to end. If you get fouled and have to sell it going down whatever, but if the guy brushes past you and you roll around like he just curb stomped the shit out of you get the fuck out of the game. It honestly is embarrassing trying to get other people excited about the game when these guys are pullin that kind of shit. If you need a rest, win the ball, play it back to the defense work the ball with passing for a bit then make an attack.

well the only complaints i've heard were from the keepers, all of them. they say basically what you are. i haven't heard anything about the players complaining. but it would explain some of the weird shit that has been happening... most accurate ball ever? more like the most insane ball ever. even wind tunnel tests show the ball acts randomly in the air.

Diving is the real problem and the officials that fall for it. no pun intended, actually it was.

i played with one a few weeks ago, and as a keeper, it just fucks with you for fun. You'll be trying to save a freekick, and going through what you always do. Spot the ball, track it's spin/direction, then move towards where its going and get ready to grab it. Only the problem with the jabulani is that you see it, you figure out the direction, and then when you're moving to grab it....it's suddenly veered off in the opposite direction. (or it's suddenly diving, rising, etc.) Its just not predictable. For the strikers i was playing with it was more love/hate. It goes right where they want it, it curls into a better position, or it blasts 100ft off target. Personally i'm not a big fan of the pattern on it either, it's not particular easy to read. The teamgeist is probably the best ball i've ever played with.

I dont know... maybe its just the way that me and a couple of my friends tend to kick it, or something.. but it didnt like staying low, i'll say that much...

That's the key to this ball I think... figuring out how to keep it low, and how to give it just enough power to drop on a dime.
