Where to move??

Im moving out west in a couple months and im still stuck on figuring out where to move. I want to be close to skiing. And in a moderately cheap part of town. So give me some towns near any of these resorts that sound like this.

A. Park City
B. Mammoth
C. Keystone
D. Breck

frisco, dillon, silverthorne, breck, keystone, are all near to both breck and keystone.  and there is a huge influence of skiers.

im bummin it yo. I have enough cash saved up i can survive and ski for a month or 2. then get a job.

its not where to live but towns around these resorts where its cheap living etc.

A majority of NS is going to say CO. However, I'm going to go Mammoth. The park is PRIME (I was skiing Main in mid-June), you will have the longest season (They made it from mid-October to July 4th this season), and by far the best terrain of all those mountains. Plus, Mammoth Lakes is right at the bottom of the hill, so you're gonna be damn close to skiing and if Mammoth gets crowded, drive North for 30 minutes and ski June. I don't know how into powder you are coming from the East, but Mammoth has great fucking snow (commonly found in large quantities) and what seems to be endless amounts of insane terrain. I don't think you will regret Mammoth.

I used to live in Dillon, specifically Dillon VAlley, and you can find cheap rent.

Or you could live in the closet underneath the staircase of a house for real cheap too, anywhere. Thats how I kept my rent down.

gotcha. ive never had the chance to ski out west and i'd do alot to be able to ha, but i go to utah every summer and its fun out there hiking, national parks, atv-ing, but super hot, but also kinda boring if its out in a small city. i really dont know alot but thats just my .02 cents. mammoth or co look super sick.

i dont really like the vibe i get from most of the resorts in CO (Keystone, breck, copper...etc) as much as other resorts like big sky or whistler. except for steamboat, steamboat is the shit.

The Epic Pass is a great deal, no doubt about that. However, it's a drive to Vail and Beaver from Summit County, assuming that's where the OP would live. Not to mention the road (I-70?) closes a lot. Plus, the Mammoth park chair never has a line and the ski scene is definitely starting to pick up out there too. If it were me, personally, I would do Mammoth, one place with KILLER terrain and a top of the line park. You don't have to haul your ass out to Vail or Beaver for a pow day, you can just take the free 10 minute bus ride to one of the lodges. And you don't have to worry about the road closing or even driving for that matter. That's my opinion though. CO and Mammoth are going to be dope no matter what.

Aye. I live in silverthorne... work at copper and ski: loveland, basin, keystone, breck, copper, vail, beaver. all within roughly 30 to 40 minute drives.

Utah is by far the most affordable option. Live in Salt Lake, car pool to the mountains and buy one or 2 passes. Unless you plan on cramming a ton of people into a small place in Mammoth or Summit County and eating Ramen or rice 24/7, SLC is by far the cheapest cost of living near good skiing.

Another option is get a place in Heber City, Utah. Its outside of the resort areas of Deer Valley so things arent too expensive, its a pretty nice, small town, and theres like 6 or 7 mountains within an hour drive. Including Park City, Snowbasin, Alta, Snowbird, etc...

I've been wondering about salt lake, I know that the skiing there looks awesome but anything I've heard about living in the city there kinda sucks. Has anyone lived there and could say something about it?

no complaints from me, i dont know what youve heard, but living in the city isnt bad, good people, youre close to EVERYTHING, good parties and of course the epic skiing at any of the 6 resorts all about 30 minutes away

salt lake yo. 30 mins from a multitude of resorts.  PC like 20 mins.  bird stays open pretty late so you have spring skiing, they closed last weekend.  sure the beer is shitty, but the living cost is so cheap.

Heber is small, right next to pc, but will suck for anything but skiing that area, going to alta/snowbird will take forever.



Salt lake by far has the cheaper living. You can snag a PC pass for 375 (look on craigslist in the fall, reps post on there to sell passes for discount. If they sell like 20 they get a free one, its exactly what the school ski clubs do but without membership) then work at snowbird or seven PC if you wanna do it that way, free pass and a job. I know plenty of people who live in slc and work at the resorts.

I think you'd have the most "off hill" shit to do in SLC. Sure, people party in summit county and at mammoth, but they're tiny little town and SLC is a city, period.

It really depends on what you want, small town by ill parks and OKAY pow skiing, really small town with sick park and sick pow skiing but more expensive or a city with sick park skiing and the best pow skiing in america, for the cheapest.

it you're into altabird, with brighton nearby (and pc relatively close) an option is sandy utah. you could get an apt for 500 a month and find a roommate or two, and livings cheap out there. only issue is you're smack in the middle of mormonland. so dont be smoking anything that doesnt come with a government warning on the box.

Salt Lake City definitely. Its the cheapest, and it gives you more options of mountains to ski at compared to Park City, where you would have to drive farther to get to the bird/ Alta/ Brighton etc. Its more centrally located, and affordable. Everyone there is really chill also.
