There are less than 200 of the 2010 GT3RS in the world, with only around 75 imported into the US. There are MAYBE 3 of them in Ohio, let alone seeing any in this color combination will be rare. He bought this car to be unique... The paint has classic history with the Porsche name. Everything on the car has a purpose for racing use. It's not meant to be a garage queen, and he will be using at the Mid-Ohio raceway.

Good points, i guess not "everything".

But the RS version is basically just taking a GT3 and making it lighter, while still keeping it civilized. I don't see how you can argue the fact that this is a car built for racing. Read any article, watch any video, talk to someone who owns one... they are a race car first and foremost.
When i sat in it the first two things i noticed was that the seats were made of carbon fiber, and the second was that there were no inside door handles. The "handles" were a small loop you pull to open the door and were made of a rope-like material. I guess these two things save close to 10lbs from the regular GT3. The navigation

He has one of those International trucks(i know nothing about) that he uses to transport cars, not the Raptor.

yeah i agree, they really seemed to do alot of stuff just for gimmicks. its kinda cool but kinda annoying. if they went with manual window's no ac, no radio or nav. etc.. they could have saved a significant amount of weight, not sure how much those parts weight in a gt3, but added up in a normal car and that could be over 50 lbs. but they decided to save weight by using a sticker.

the RS is definitely not a race car, its a street car that can easily drive to and from the track. without any work to prepare it. if i owned it i wouldn't drive it every day, but probably multiple days a week, for fun drives, then drive it to and from track days. and its perfect for that,

Do you know the company that bought this car for your friend? I'm friends with a race team that sells Porsches. It's under Wright Tuning or White Lightning Motorsports. Just curious because I know they've sold more than 3 GT3 RS's in Ohio. I've seen atleast 4 there that they've sold.

wow did you read anything else i said about it? there are sooo many cases where a faster entrance means a faster exit speed. ill repeat what i said earlier. say you have a standard slow 90% corner, obviously alot depends on the car and its balance. but considering that most race cars would be pretty neutral it should be similar for most.

im sure you know about trail braking and how you can use it to get the car to rotate and get the car pointed right? so you brake at a later point, or use a softer brake, carrying more speed into the corner, and trail brake a decent amount into the corner, which will get the car pointed at the apex, often pointed so you run over the apex, now that the car is pointed earlier, you can get to power sooner.

sure its gonna be easy to get the car pointed if you taking the corner very slow, but at any close to race pace, your going to be having a harder time getting the car down to the apex if your not carrying enough speed into the corner to use trail braking to point the car at the apex, so your going to be getting back to power later meaning a slower exit. its actually pretty simple.

turn 2 at laguna seca is a good example, in alot of cases its a 2 apex corner, but in some cases its a single apex corner. shouldn't really matter for my point. its basically 180 degrees. and again its not always the same for every car. but if you overslow the entry, and have to go to maintenance throttle or even back to substantial power to take the corner at a decent speed, you often will get a push and miss the second apex. or the one apex if you only use the one later apex. this is a corner where you want to carry a good amount of speed into the corner, so you can carry your braking deep enough to get pointed at the second apex, resulting in being able to power sooner.

oak tree at VIR is also very similar, since turn 11 is right before it, people often over slow and as a result cant carry their braking deep enough into oak tree to get the car pointed at the apex. missing the apex there is often the result of overslowing turn 11, which is pretty much the entrance to oak tree.

and in my other post i already explained this but i will again. in a fast speed corner, there are alot of cases where lifting at the entrance unsettles the car where keeping at some amount of power keeps the car planted. allowing you to carry more speed through the entrance and as a result the whole corner.

what do you mean by in real life? like street driving? i would agree with you there because your driving so far under the potential of the car and corner its extremely easy to get the car placed and pointed where you want to go.

your the one who said you did some karting right? i know trail braking is alot different in karting, in general kartings just different than cars in alot of ways. i spent alot of my time in karts with a rear brake kart, where trail braking was useful in alot of situations.

if by real life you mean in actual car racing then i have to say that it would be very hard to be successful at all in auto racing without trail braking at all. every professional racing driver does it. you just cannot be as fast without doing it. ive never heard of any professional driver not doing it.

watch an onboard video of anybody in professional racing that has the gas and brake monitor things on the screen. and you will see that it is used alot.

heres a video of vettel at singapore, he's trail braking atleast a little bit in pretty much every corner. and alot of those corners are corners where exit speed is most important. if it were faster to have a slow entrance he would be braking earlier and be off the brake at or around turn in. but instead he's carrying more speed into the corner, requiring him to trail brake into the corner, which is allowing him to rotate and point the car.

cornering is alot more than turning the wheel. using brake, and throttle is a huge part of cornering. in general, braking makes the car rotate, throttle makes the car push. using the brake and throttle properly makes the car corner much better than if you were to just coast.

A little bit of karting? I should have clarified myself, 8 years karting, 7 nationally. Ive just started the skip barber school. My friend told me that laguna SECA turn one was taught by skip barber to NOT and I repeat NOT trailbrake. Street courses are often spent trailbraking through many corners, yes I do agree. But, as a majority street courses are raced probably less than 10 percent under FIA sanctioned events. And I hate to tell you. It's the sad truth. Half of the formula 1 drivers are really not that good and just provide money. The other half range from decent to a few good/very good. Other series often involve the same stats as F1. As a Karter i've seen way too much talent gone to waste because of the money involved in auto racing. Also as a Karter, I've seen really bad people move on to cars because of their money. I suppose I could go onto my thoughts about F1 right now for the he'll of it. IT SUCKS. It was cool until last year when these whack ass rules came in. Who makes a car that has way too much front grip and way too little rear grip? I don't know many. Also, for anybody saying it's amazing racing, it's not. True racing does not involve pressuring the guy in front of you until they push too hard and fly off the track. Robert Kubica said it right in an interview, "These cars are stupid right now. No matter what you do, having spoilers will still cause the car behind to loose grip. Underbody aero always gets the same amount of air. The racing would actually be interesting." I completely agree. I do believe someone else (can't remember the name) said that the way the car is designed is very dangerous in the rain. Good job fia!

Are you saying that the art of (fuck can't remember the other type of braking method) is just braking turning coasting then getting back on the gas? Please tell me you aren't. If you are, you are throwing the whole late apex theory right out of the water. Late apexing is one of the, if not the most, important styles of racing. passes on the straightaway are made late apexing.

Also I do understand that you can use your brakes to help guide the front of the car. Probably why I always dial a ton of front brake out of the front of the car.

Don't bring Shanghai up as a trailbraking course. Turn 1 is only possible like that. Along with turn 7 I think. All other turns there are not trailbraking.

Going into my eighth year of karting also shin and I are close friends...On true roadcourses I only use trailbreaking on the start to keep the r's up. I don't see why trailbreaking helps the car/kart rotate because when you are on the throttle the rear of the car is planted to the ground and when you are on the brakes the rear gets light and it makes the rear rotate a ton more. I've adapted a driving style that I learned from my friend (ex-nascar driver) Eric Jones, quick jab on the brakes to get the rear end light, then a quick 80 degree turn to get it to turn then, you bring the steering wheel back to the point at which you would normally turn in the corner. the quick "jab" makes it rotate and it wouldn't work the same if you trailbreak. it would almost push. I have national poles and podiiums... I've driven pieces of shit and still made them go fast I think I know what I'm talking about.

I think you should have gotten an award for "Braking" This weekend, you were lighting them up in every down hill even in can.

Back to the topic, no proffesional race car driver brakes into the corner. That is the worst thing you can do to keep speed, you brake going straight slow down and you have to be back on the gas BEFORE the apex if you want any chance at getting R's back and carrying speed out of the corner. We could go in anything you try your method and we will do ours and you will lose everytime. The biggest thing is brake in the straight and use the most break you can in the least amount of time like kyle just said.

yes,when you are accelerating, the front end becomes light and the rear is planted, making it push, when your under braking, the front is planted and the rear becomes light. the car does still have a slight tendancy to go straight under braking, especially very hard braking, so this does help keep the car from over rotating. but it doesnt prevent it. this is why you need to be smooth with your release and transition from brake to gas, if you snap off the brake, with the car loaded like that under trail braking, its going to get loose and probably spin, because its hard for people to understand that the act of braking, is keeping the car from spinning.

its really a pretty easy technique to learn, the most important part is how smoothly you can let off of the brake, and the smooth transition from brake to gas. and you will not have a problem with it over rotating.

in karting i hardly ever used to do it. it really makes much more sense in cars. it wasnt until i started getting experience in cars that i tried it more in karts, and it only really made sense in one maybe 2 corners on my local track, and it wasnt because it helped point the kart. so in karts yeah, i wouldnt say its a good or bad thing. but in cars, you cant be competitive without doing it.

ive been around racing school's, driving event instructors etc.. alot and trail braking into a corner like turn 2 at laguna is not something they would definitely not teach early on its a hard corner to do it properly on because you need to trail so deep into it for it to really be significantly effective. im guessing 90% of the people would not be up to speed enough for it to even make sense. and even if they were, theres a good chance they would not be ready for that technique.

i have definitely heard instructors tell their studends to do their braking in a straight line, ive heard this alot actually when they are teaching real beginners. and i agree with it, its not something you need to do until you have your driving and car control down very well.

and as for all the formula 1 stuff, yeah i agree with you on most of what you said. that video was literally the first one i could find that had the brake and gas meter thing. and vettel is definitely an amazing driver, anyone in formula 1 is extremely good, even if they did just bring in lots of money to be able to race.

but yeah, im not a very big fan of formula 1 right now. thats why i wish racing got more coverage in the U.S. because half the ameture/low end professional racing is amazing racing to watch. and much better than formula 1.

i like watching grand am/continental tire, ALMS, indy, mx5 cup, etc... more than i like watching formula 1.

really, every professional race car driver trail brakes, ive said it alot i know, but its just a part of racing. and yes, i agree that you want most of your braking to be done in a straight line, but with trail braking that just means you move your braking point later, and leave that last little bit of braking to carry into the corner.

and yes you do need to get back to power before the apex in most cases. but trail braking often allows you to get back to full power sooner than if you weren't trail braking.

and i have to disagree that you want to "use the most brake you can in the least amount of time" there are alot of cases where its better to do a longer brake with less brake pressure than it is to do a quick hard brake. lime rock is a great example of this. in alot of cars you never actually threshold brake anywhere, you never use a "10 pedal" im sure in some faster cars you do.

even in turn 1, since your braking point is right around where you turn in, your turning while your braking so your at like a 8 maybe 9 pedal at most.

I dont understand how it can get you on the power sooner when your actually going faster since your in the brake and the throttle at the same time. I mean national front runners like me or people like sam beasley if you watch its hard on the throttle in a straight line then on the gas even before your even in the corner. thus, giving you a lot more momentum off the corner.

and also i dont think ive ever spun out on braking for a corner...so that point makes no sense..

ive driven and will get to drive star mazdas here in the future and possibly some usf2000 days with john walko, all depending on money and none of this makes sense when I drive karts or cars
