Replying to Stitches in finger

so on wensday i broke my RooR diffusor and my Zumo was about to fall to its death until i reached to save it. However, i grabbed where the diffusor had broke and cut myself to the bone on my right-ring finger. I got 7 stitches and am in the healing process now. My question is how can i prevent from bumping it against something/getting bacteria in it? and when i apply polsporin should i let it sit on the cut or wipe it off after?
