Ayn Rand

Anybody else enjoy reading her stuff? Right now I'm reading 'The New Left' and it's really interesting to see a different view on society. Marx and Rousseau are also good authors to look into. The stuff can be hard to understand (I'll read a page for 1/2 an hour sometimes trying to figure out what they're saying), but it's so good.

im reading anthem for school right now, she writes pretty well, im not totally sure if i agree with all her ideas, infact i barely know what her ideas are, other tha shes very scared of what she thinks of as communism

the only problem with man is that he doesn't know how he ought to live. But there is a law of life. A law to live by. Not guidelines (commandments)..not suggestions (parents, schools), but a LAW. Just as certain as the law of gravity. The law of nature. Distroy diversity and face extinction. Increased food production = increased population. Starvation is natural. We have to start following the laws of nature and stop thinking we are exempt from them. We have to stop pretending we are gods and we were meant to rule the world and possibly the universe. if we continue, we will crash. we are getting close. As we eliminate species and diversity, we decrease the changes of anything surviving after we destroy ourselves. We are very close to eliminating all life on this planet forever. Something will survive, right? Well, we hope so. But one thing is certain. It won't be us.

Just when i was thinking everyone on this site is retarded... at least someone on here is intelligent. Atlas shrugged and The Fountainhead are two Ayn Rand books i've read. Objectivism makes more sense to me than most other philosophies. Yes, selfishness is a virtue.

wow, this is an old thread, but nevertheless i was astounded to find it.

I LOVE ayn rand's novels and writing, she is amazing and awe-inspiring especially when you learn about ayn rand herself.

objectivism is astouding and so bold a concept to come from a women in the early 50's and late 40's.

gah. anyway im a total bookworm, but in all seriousness her work and her life are utterly mindblowing and sublime.

i read anthem but idk it wasnt for me. her ideas are intreaguing tho. im really into poe. the pit and the pendulum, the tell tale heart and the raven are amazing. i also read Walden by Thoreau this year which was pretty insightful. i think i may read some more of his stuff.
