What is the speed threshold for getting a ticket on the QEW/400's?
I drove through Ontario the other day and i'm really dumbfounded. I heard when i was little that "There is never a single cop on the QEW" but i saw someone pulled over. How fast can you go and be alright? I was going 80mph (120kph i think) and cars were FLYINGGGG by me! Wtf?
Depends on the time of day and what highway...but on the 400 and 401 i have been forced to hit up the slow lanes at times when im cruising at 120...
its common to be in packs of cars doing 120-130 on these highways but there is always the chance you will be the one guy that gets caught...the limit is usually 100 and cops here seem to have a 10km/h threshold (110 should be fine no matter what)
QEW generally has more patrol than 401,404 and 407 and the gardiner.
that being said, we once drove from st catharines to richmond hill via qew and 407 going 145, because the alternator died in st catharines, a local shop replaced our battery and told us there was an hour on it before the car would start having issues.
i also know a kid who consitently goes 180 on dvp and gardiner and has never been stopped, funny thing is he got pulled over for rolling a stop sign at like 1am in an industrial area.
Because of my job I usually put in 1000+ km on the 400 series highways a week. And I am always cruising at 120 minimum, and most of the time not in the fast lane. Although Ive had a friend been pulled over for 115. It just depends on the cop at the time, id say 110 is completely safe always though.
I usually try to stick about 110, but with people whipping by me i usually end up going with the flow about 120.......but the cops out there are pretty on the ball and over 110 yer fair game.
