that's like asking bass players why they dont just play guitar.. it's just a different approach. you can ride closeout shorebreak, do all kinds of aerials, do shuvits and other tricks in the middle of waves, etc. lots of pros and cons to both sports. also i live in a place where there is skimboardable conditions 5 times as often as surfable waves
