Mac is not pretty good, ppl just buy them because its so shiny. You can buy the best hardware items for 1100€ and build it on your own. So you can have a pretty powerful computer and game with it or use it for big bussines.
Mac is just good for editing and working with adobe softwares.
But... you can do that with a pc too. People are just too dumb to buy single parts of the computer.
Apple is just overpriced.

Re: iPad--Stop it with the "oversized iPod touch" argument. Anyone who says that does not own/has not used one enough to truly realize the potential of the platform. Look at any of the native iPad apps, and it's pretty easy to tell that they're beginning to approach PC (Desktop OS) quality. I'd rather use my iPad for most tasks, like surfing the internet, watching movies or TV shows, listening to music, Facebook, IMing, etc. And the A4 chip inside iPad is quite capable of doing whatever, because iOS is built by Apple and optimized for the platform.

So in short, you're missing my point.

The fact is that the future of computing is going to be on mobile devices. That's a given. People want their content to be more portable, and Apple is satisfying that demand. Apple is the #1 mobile devices company in the world, with their MacBooks, iPads, iPods, and iPhones. iOS is a mobile device OS. But we haven't even scratched the surface on the potential of iPad.

Once iOS 4.0 comes out for iPad this fall, get back to me. I'm positive that by then you won't be making any "oversized iPod touch" arguments--you'll be wondering how you could have been so naive to think that Apple wouldn't start merging their OSes at some point. Just wait.

PC>Mac all the way. I know many people here are mac fanboys, but pc's are sooo much more powerful than macs, for much cheaper.

Mac users always say, "well we cant get viruses," well bs, and as long as you buy antivirus for your pc, you'll never get any viruses.

pc's are so much better. Even apple uses Linux to run many of their websites.

The only way macs are superior to pc's is with video playback and editing, thats a fact.

Yup. Macs are just trendy toys people buy thinking it will make them be socially acceptable and shit. Now if you are into graphic design, I guess Macs are fine, but you can get an evenly matched if not BETTER PC for much less than $2000.

PC's are compatible with everything. When they crash, its from third party sources while MAC's crash from system malfunctions. And PC's can be fixed fairly easily. Im sure a friend would know how to fix it. But macs require the whole system to be re-installed. Sounds like fun!

In the end. PC's are much better than Macs.

oh.. and inb4 Gnartrons Macs suck picture

i dual boot. having OSX/Windows on a computer comes in handy especially because some professors at pitt refuse to make things "mac friendly.


honestly if i had to do it all over again, i'd buy a mac. anytime i have a problem, i just run up to the store and get it looked at...no tedious phone calls with people halfway across the world. plus it holds up really well, the aluminum body is way better than plastic crap.

FYI the majority of the general public (and almost all mac users) don't buy computers based on specs anymore. Almost every computer made now has enough power for what most people do.

The only reason you should ever buy a mac is video editing.
But PCs are better for everything else, sound editing however is better done on windows.

PC's aren't better for everything else man. Mac's have such great unique software that makes the extra few thousand easily worth it. With a mac you get great free programs like iTunes, Safari, Photobooth, and iPhoto. You just don't get that quality of software on the Windows platform. Sure windows is cheaper but you pay for what you get.

No those are dumbed down versions and aren't as good. Plus Windowz gets viruses. Thanks to the Dellort encryption on mac it is impossible for them to get viruses. No matter how irresponsible your behavior is online you will never get infected. That safety is worth the money.

Your arguments are terrible. Are you kidding me about the specs? Most people buy based on specs. If you're gaming/encoding/editing what will be faster? Better specs. Which a PC offers a better deal on.

As for your software argument:

iTunes=free for PC
Safari=garbage, get firefox
Photobooth=any pc with a webcam comes with software free.
IPhoto= if you're doing serious editing, you'll be buying photoshop, most likely.

Not sure what you're saying about "dumbed down versions," they're the same thing on mac and pc.

Viruses:

Wrong, Macs get them too. Use that money you saved getting a PC and buy Norton. I haven't gotton a single virus over the 3 years I've owned my PC.

Photobooth isn't free with any webcam dude. It does green screen effects without an actual greenscreen. show me a pc that can do that, that effect alone is worth spending thousands. As far as iPhoto not being a serious editing tool you have no idea what oyu are talking about. TONS of professional photographers use iPhoto for all their photo management. I know dozens of them that exclusively use iPhoto.

As for viruses you are wrong again. Dellort encryption is built into the OS10 operating system at the core level and therefore protects the operating system from all threats no matter how bad your behavior is.

Another argument I didn't bring up is how great Mac's look. The reality is anyone who is popular or successful uses a mac. Anyone who uses a pc is obviously not successful or of any importance.

ok where to begin apple uses clever advertising to lure in fashion minded consumers. case in point the iphone 4. they made it so sexy and sleek yet the phone fails in the one department that phones were intened for: making calls. now on to computers yes macs are great for photo editing and video performance. however the majority of people in this thread dont use their macs to their full potential but rather they use them and praise them for the smooth ability to surf the web and play music. pcs are the better bargain and are higher performing machines in certain areas such as gaming file transfer and programming. and finally i close with this: apple allows you to run windows on a mac but windows doesnt let you cant run snowleopard or whatever the shit is called on a pc. gee i wonder why that is?

and if i owned a business i would higher the pc guy over the mac guy any day.

I'll admit I stand corrected on the Photobooth. However, wtf are you saying about professional photographers using Iphoto only? Perhaps for organization, but it lacks many features found in other editing software, such as Photoshop CS5.

As for viruses, also untrue. Symantec has found trojans that target the Mac operating system.

Mac appearance: Yes they are somewhat cool looking, however many PC's look way cooler.

Anyone popular or succesful using a mac? BS. That's just a blatant blanket statement. Look at big companies. They don't run their servers on macs, or have supercomputers running on a Mac OS. Look at Apples market share. It's at around 10%. That means the majority of people use Windows Pc's, succesful or not.

As for viruses. YES THEY DO EXIST ON MACS! ok. let me set it straight. They really aren't viruses, but Trojans. (Actually the most threatening to a computer). Do some research and you'll see that people have figured out ways to attach very threatening Trojans to downloads across the internet THAT AFFECT SPECIFICALLY MACS! One in particular, a torrent for iWork, was found with a threatening Trojan. Since then there have been cases where applications such as ADOBE FLASH, ACROBAT, AND MICROSOFT OFFICE have been infected specifically for MACS!

There. MAcs are at risk. End up discussion.

you can’t customize their hardware or software, and that you can’t even use the Linux functions that *should* be present on any Linux distro. But even within Mac’s little world itself, you can barely change any options on their OS, user interface, The Dock, directory layout, etc. But hey, as long as the only thing you want to do is change your desktop wallpaper to be the photo you took at the latest indie rock show you attended, then by all means, buy a Mac.

Now for people arguing they run bootcamp or other applications to run Windows on their Mac. I'm in the business school of a university which is currently top 10 in the nation. (Not bragging but speaking from experience with MANY individuals). Running Windows on Macs are NOT reliable. Sure, it may work for you, to run internet explorer and make a powerpoint presentation. But when you get down to business applications where An excel spreadsheet may be hundreds of sheets/ pages, it is slow and very frustrating. Many of my friends have the top Macbook Pros only to get into the business school and watch their Macs suffer. They end up giving up doing work on it and have to hike it to the library daily to do homework assignments. There were HUNDREDS of instances where I lent my laptop out for an hour to friends with macs whose computers couldn't do what my Dell Latitude could do.

Oh. Lastly. Macs are for fanboy/hipster wannabes who think buying a 17 inch $2500 computer (elsewhere found starting at 899 with same specs) makes them technologically competent. Why dont you right click and copy and paste this somewhere to save on your computer. Oh wait. You can't
