I can't justify spending the extra 30 bucks monthly to use a smartphone. With a laptop and shitty phone, I can do almost everything I need to. I use my phone as a camera and mp3 player, but now cell carriers aren't offering many phones in between absolute basic and smartphone (monthly charges). I was thinking about getting an ipod touch to fill the void and help give me some new capabilities (like wifi). I just had a random thought, however. Phones like the HTC EVO have an 8mp camera, 32GB music space, and wifi.... can't I simply not activate it with phone service and use that as an ipod touch-type music/wifi device with a camera? If that works, I would think its better and cheaper than an ipod touch, and would be nice coupled with a crappy phone. Anyone know the answer?
you mean an iphone? they just came out with the iphone 4 shoots 720p video @30fps and 5mp camera up to 32 gigs of harddrive 7-14 hours of talk time, and a hd touch screen
^thanks for the info. I'll take it into consideration but my family is on verizon, so I'm not about to leave the family plan and pay that much more for any plan. Anyone know about the question asked?
as long as you keep it on airplane mode so it doesn't constantly search for signal i don't see why not. that's a fucking expensive price to pay to not activate it though.
It has a pretty high resolution though. 960x640 on a screen that size makes for pretty high pixel density so things would generally look really good. Not quite HD but close.
haha this thread is turning into a phone war. but to respond to a few people's questions, I was thinking that I'd have my friend who is on sprint get it (I've seen it advertised as 199 with new plan or not) as an "upgrade", and i'd buy it from him. Compared to an 8gb ipod touch with no camera at the same price, that seems like a good option. Am I missing something? And my reasoning about not just getting it with service was that 30 bucks a month times 24 months (2 year contract) is 720 bucks... plus service and everything. That's simply outside my budget.
i know you're on spring but i'm just gunna throw this out there. i'm on att and i only pay $10/month for my lg xenon. i put a miniSD card (i think 2gb) in it and have plenty of music on it.
but you could always go ahead and buy it for that 199 and then if it turns out to be a bad idea then turn around and sell it for more than 199.
