Is it just me, helmets

i feel like it would be stupid to buy a helmet used, i mean, once the material inside cushions a hard fall, the structural integrity of the helmet would be broken. this is why "hard hats" look good on paper imo.
just wondering what you guys thought

Well your idea is correct, as it could damage the structural integrity of the helmet, but firstly it depends how old the helmet is?, the brand? and the damage history?. Modern helmets todays are so technologically advanced that i doubt that a reasonable fall would affect its structural ability. But me personally i always buys my ski gear new as i know its free from problems and i like to know that i have owned something. But sometimes you cant afford new things and a second hand piece of equipment will be just fine.

But thats just me, you have to decided these factors for yourself :)

Considering how much a helmet costs compared to how useful a functioning brain is, I would just lay down the cash for a new one. With a second hand one you have no idea of its history and it can be damn near impossible to tell if the helmet is damaged - which is why the manufacturers recommend (I doubt anyone actually does it though) replacing the helmet if it takes a heavy impact.

Yes you are correct most ski or any other recreational helmet can b damaged after one fall. In owners manual it also says as soon as he helmet has had an impact to throw it away.

I just bought a pro tec helmet and they have this think now and it has multiple layers of foam soft hard medium etc. They shell of the helme also flexes. So they basically call ot a multiple impact helmet.
I would like one of these for skiing.

I have a salomon helmet and my brother has a red, both of them say that once you hit your head once and damage the foam, you should get a new one.

I'd say just get  new one, helmets aren't that expensive compared to other skiing gear, and they're really something you should have. If you really can't some up with the money ask your parents for some, they'll probably give you money for a helmet.

poc makes an all sport one that I saw yesterday at my local shop. I'm not sure if it's multiple impact, but it's good for biking skateboarding wakeboarding and skiing

I Would never consider buying a used helmet.

Don't forget about sweet, longer fit than POC that has more of a round fit, both multi-impact.

i would say a used helmet is better then no helmet.......buy new if you can but if you dont have the cash just buy a helmet ...............
