Ive got sony vegas and im using it on a sony laptop with 3gb ram so fairly powerful and it has suffiecient hard drive memory left. When im editing the video playback is really jurky and makes it near impossible to edit. Has anyone got any suggestions?
I have also found it strange when I have copied files from my panasonic hd camcorder (hdc tm-10) to my laptop the files when i open thefolder seem to be in MPEG2 file in a folder with a TMB file, an iis file and a CONT file (not sure what these are).
In have been thinking of upgrading camera to the panasonic hdc sd700 and before i splash out on this i want to know that i will be able to edit with little problems, has anyone else found similar problem with panasonic camcorders and if so how have you overcome this?
Sorry for the many questions but im having trouble editing at the moment and ive got loads of amusing footage to upload and its a shame I cant do so?

vegas has a unique way of handling a computers RAM. they only allow so much dedicated to vegas. if you want to use more RAM you can adjust those settings in your preferences menu
also if you just want to see a preview at a fluid motion highlight your video and hit either ctrl+b or shift+b cant remember which but it builds a Dynamic Ram Preview
so the program uses the dedicated RAM to play back the video

On another note, what do you guys export your film as. When you have to render it, what format and template do you use, and where do you upload it to?

As I am a bit of a rookie in editing i'm not sure ive got that far yet (soory for my ignorance). I am finding it hard to come up with a way of editing the clips that i import onto my pc from the camera, as i said earlier there are several files that come up and no single AVCHD file, this means that when I come to edit i dont no what settings to put the editor on as the files are not AVCHD. Is there any way that i can access the files and import them onto my pc so that they are in AVCHD format. My camera is a panasonic and it seem to me that I have to use their importing software which creates these multi file folders, Can anyone help? thanks

Sorry to say but editing AVCHD requires a little more then 3 gigs of ram.
Just my experience. I would say you would at least want 6 gigs. With a hyper threaded dual core or a quad core. I don't know about Vegas but in Adobe the programs use Open GL. So if Vegas uses Open GL you should get a nice graphic card to.
Other then that you can alway render for a preview when you make changes, but that's probably not what you want to hear.
