One of our workers broke his ankle today on the jobsite literally minutes before he was supposed to leave. His original story was he was carrying something and tripped on the ground or a piece of rebar and fell on his leg/ankle funny. The story that later came out is he was horsing around and fell over (basically his fault). So not only did he break his ankle and can't work, but now his workers comp claims will be denied so he'll not only be broken but broke too. Kinda sucks for the guy but workers comp is such a drain on a company especially for stupid shit like that. Fun story
The only thing I've had so bad at work that i needed legit medical attention for was when my finger got smashed against the corner of a disassembled walk-in freezer. Cut clear through to the tendon. Had workmens comp for the surgery and the therapy.
we had another guy two weeks ago collapse on the job from heat stroke. had an internal temperature of 107 (fahrenheit for you canadians)- my boss said he researched and 107 was that magic number where you're not likely to make it, and if you do you'll likely be fucked up the rest of your life. last i heard the guy was still in intensive care
moral of the story is if you're out in that summer heat stay hydrated and take plenty of breaks
Had a guy almost go through the chipper 3 times in one day. He always would stand in front of it and not to the side and got pulled in 3 times. My boss fired him that day after the 3rd.
Another guy got dragged in because some idiot got the climbing rope caught up in the branches, same idiot managed to get the rope around his ankle and was a bootheel away from the grabbing cylinders when someone hit the safety catch.
Closest call i got was a kickback into the hardhat. If i wouldnt have i wouldve had a nice ugly forehead wound or be dead.
