How dangerous is Jamaica ?

im thinkin bout copping some tickets to Jamaica tomorrow for me and my wifey it looks beautiful but i heard its sketch . anyone have experience or advice?

i really dont know much, but i think there are some really sketchy parts. if you stay to the touristy parts (boring if you ask me) it should be alright. in any case, its not just a bunch of rastas sittin around hitting a bong all day

well there was a drug war or something going on, but i read it was away from the resorts and mainly focused in the capitol kingston, so i would stay away from there.

depends where you go and what you do i guess. The only people I know who went to Jamaica stayed in a resort the whole time. But whats the point of visiting Jamaica if you do that?

friends were there when the drug war recently erupted. they mostly stayed in their resort and were fine!

went there like 7 yrs ago with the family. If you stay at the resort your obviously going to be fine. We went to some towns and they were pretty poor, and as always poverty usually leads to crime. Needless to say it was pretty sketchy in the towns, then again was a long time ago.

I have a friend who just took a cruise to Jamaica a few months ago. He said it sucked hardcore. As long as you stay in the wealthier areas, you should be fine, but be prepared to have a shitty time. Jamaicans despise Americans, and white people at that, and if you happen to stay at a resort you will be protected by armed guards the whole time. Most of the resorts are walled in with barbed wire, and the guards walk around with firearms. Have a great time, bro!

Jamaica is dangerous. However, your resort should make it abundantly clear where you should and shouldn't go. I've never been myself but people who go tell me you basically have to stay in your resort or go on guided tours, you can't really just like wander around kingston.

There wouldn't be resorts unless they were safe. They are protected because thats a big business in Jamaica. My friends go every year and say it awesome and safe. The only thing that happened to them that they said was sketch was a dude on the street offered them free weed.

if you stay in the tourist parts you're fine but everywhere else is fucking fucked. it was cool i went when i was 8 i had a really good time.

There was a point in the vacation where we didn't want to leave the resort area.

It's really bad and dangerous but everyone sells weed there.

"Floating Salesmen" are the easiest to haggle with.

NO! Your fucking country is trying to extradite a Gang leader Mr coke on drug smuggling charges to the U.S. This means shit loads of jamaican troops have gone in to certain areas of kingston looking for him and have shot the place up. Coke is seen like a robin hood figure to the people in his turf in kingston he protects them and make sure no crime happens and pays medical bills and such like... so now they are, or were, protecting him.

Not really a drug war... i cant belive that you dont know about the murders that the jamaican government are commiting for YOUR fucking country.

my friend went there last summer but im pretty sure they just stayed in a resort and golfed the whole time. hw said the only sketch part about it was when a coupld people would just walked up to him offerin him weed but idk

If you stay in your resort, its guided tours, and go to the hotel's recommended restaurants youll be fine. I went over winter break and we mostly stayed in the hotel except for a few nights where we went out to eat. We went to Rick's Cafe which is where Nitro Circus filmed all those cliff jumps which was pretty awesome. its just a huge restaurant with a ton of different sized cliffs, and no the Nitro jump wasnt there

I wouldnt risk my life or getting hurt at all by going, I would research a lot if you do decide to go, me and my bf made a friend from jamaica and were thinking about going next summer or around that time, i'd wait it a lil while if not then stay at the resort, a vacation is a vacation!

One of my parents friends went for a conference, and he didn't stay all inclusive, so when hes walking to a restaurant, a guy comes up to him and says buy my cd. He says no, and the guy says, I'll kill you, and shows a gun. Our friend then says, ok, ill buy it, but whats on it. He starts talking to the guy, and he realizes that if he's talking to this guy, no one else will try selling him shit, so he goes in a restuarant and sits down and orders himself food, and the guy food. He then says that if he eats with him, then he'll buy the cd. He dragged the guy along back to the hotel, then paid him the 10 dollars for his cd, and he paid for his dinner. Wacked story, shit is crazy.

I've been, but it's been a few years. It's got one of the highest per capita murder rates in the world. You will be "encouraged" to stay at the resort as some parts are super sketch. Fuck that shit though. We went out an about and it was a blast. I'll add that it is a very poor country & it's pretty dirty outside of the resorts.
