Everclear is pretty strong, but have you drank 200 proof? A couple of my friends took ethanol from the chemistry department at school, that shit is RUGGED, really not enjoyable at all, but will put hair on your chest.

I'm not sure about the laws in his state, but here in Cali, kegs have to be signed off on by someone over 21. That way, if the party gets busted, they know who bought the keg. (Assuming he's under 21.) Safer just to get 30 racks.

Typically undergrad chemistry majors aren't the dumbest people you will ever meet, that my friend is quite a statement. If you get pure 100% lab grade ethanol it's sorta safe (if it has low benzene content). I believe ethyl alcohol is the type found in all alcoholic beverages, methanol is the dangerous stuff (which may be what you are thinking of?)

Nah man regardless of education drinking straight ethanol is sooooo stupid. Your friends are sooo lucky they can function normally. If you drink the smallest bit too much you can seriously seriously hurt yourself. One of my best friends drank pure ethanol, this kid drinks six nights a week hes not a tank but he definitely knows what he is doing with sauce, wakes up a week later on dialysis with no eye sight or motor skills. slowly relearned to talk, he still cannot focus his eyes on any kind of electronic screen (tv comp cell) and all of his facial muscles are fucked up. When he speaks if you dont know him you most likely will not understand what he is say because he speeds up as he talks to a point of not even saying words and you have to tell him to slow down. ethyl alcohol is in alcoholic beverages your correct but for example vodka is only 40 percent...beer is like 7 or 8 (with exceptions) I strongly discourage anyone from drinking ethanol even if they are undergrad chemistry students

Yeah, it's methanol that will fuck you over. It actually causes blindness haha. But pure ethanol isn't the safest thing to drink but it doesn't have anything substantially dangerous in it. A buddy of mine actually did a large shot of it out of a crucible in chemistry last year and was visably drunk shortly afterwards.

These guys weren't pounding it, trust me after one shot your throat closes right up, and my chemistry prof actually mentioned drinking pure ethanol. Not to be a dick, but what your friend probably drank wasn't 100%, it is very difficult to obtain, the "lab grade" ethanol actually has methanol and benzene in it, which have to be extracted before it's safe to drink. The methanol can be metabolized, but the resulting compounds are extremely toxic, absolutely 100% ethanol is not "unsafe", though i wouldn't recommend pounding it, and i'm positive most people couldn't handle a sip. People drink everclear all the time, and that's 190 proof, it's obviously not great for you, but i would like to think that it was the extra shit that fucked your friend over. I'm not trying to say go out and get some, but this was stuff taken from a University research lab and was "safe". +++ vibes to your friend however

Yea thanks for the vibes. He grabbed it from a lab at ESF ( suny school) and the reason he grabbed it was because it was pure. (informing you that im not arguing with you anymore!)
