So if you havent seen bill mahers documentary called "religulous" basically bill maher makes fun fo peoples religions for an hour and a half straight.
I feel like Bill Maher is kind of mean to be so intolerant of peoples beliefs and make so much fun of them.
Personally I dont really believe in anything, but that doesnt mean im going to try and humiliate people for believing what they want to believe in.
I feel like bill maher wants to be the guy who tells children there is no santa clause. But if it doesnt harm anybody, i dont see what the problem is letting people believe santa clause is real for their whole lives. Like seriously who gives a shit.

Constantly working to convince yourself that the universe is ruled by a deity is firmly within the realm of self-delusion.
If it wasn't delusional you wouldn't have to keep telling yourself that its true, its merit would really be more of an "emergent property"

ok i will correct my self, i was trying to demonstrate that there is alot of things in our world we cannot prove, we can only measure the effects of gravity, but we have no way to prove why gravity works the way it does. (you would surprised to find that my sedimentary and surface prossesses professor taught me that.) i was not trying to directly compare the two as far as evidence and disipline, rather make the point that we don't know everything.
i agree with your last paragraph, which is why i quoted "one must live by reason and faith". some things take reason, some take faith, and sometimes both.
Ex. Some friends and i are going camping deep in the backcountry in spring, i must use reason and figure out what i need, what the conditions will be, and how will i deal with an emergency situation. i must also have faith in my ability to carry out such an exursion and faith in my friends to do the same.
btw the post of mine at the top of the page is from grove karl gilbert, the father of modern geology, you would do good to learn about him. i found the quote on the cover of the big nickel here in utah.

fuck religion, if I want to drink too much, smoke too much, and womanize, Im going to. This is 'MURICA dammit. And as Jon Adams stated in a bill in 1797, A NON CHRISTIAN NATION. Which refers back to one of the original posts, why are athiests treated as a minority?

wow, did you even read my post? Last time I checked, the Crusades happened, what, 900 years ago? Try rereading my post. Of course I've heard of the Crusades, but so you know, the Muslims were also involved. The shit that continues between these two faiths is just an extension the Crusades. Yes, extreme violence was perpetuated on both sides, but IN THIS DAY AND AGE (like my first post specifies) the majority of violence is carried out by Muslims.

Because technically athiests are the miniorty i believe, although religion shouldnt come into play when making decisions about stuff in america.
People who say america was founded as a "christian nation" are idiots in imo because
A. There were several founding fathers who were considered Athiest, aganostic, and even anti-religion
B. They didnt put stuff about god into the constitution except for poetry and phrasing.
C. Just becuase someone is christian doesnt mean that they put god into every single thing they do. You cant say it was inspired by god just because they were christian. I believe in god, but I dont think about god with the actions I do, I just do them, I think teh same can be said for several of the founding fathers.
Thats just make take on it.

That was a very poorly lettered response. Are you 13 maybe 14. What does having faith in your family, friends etc have anything to do with my statement, or reason for that matter. You first paragraph( if you can even call it that) was a stream of nonsensical babel, leading me to believe that you are not in out of middle school. In most sentences you fail to follow the most basic conventions of the English language. Your closing point was even worse than the rest. "if you study life and its origins you will find that all we think and feel is in concurrence with each other". You have studied the origins of life? You have concluded that *how we all think and feel is in concurrence with each other. Really?

There is not one piece of literature that even alludes to Christianity.

I think I may want to spellcheck first before you babble and accuse someone of poor sentence structure.

Once again, you fail to recognize the difference between the "faith" you have in your friends that leads you to believe they wont go and kill you on your camping trip or whatever, and the "faith" you have in the existence of god.
You have "faith" in you and your friends' abilities because you've known them for a while, know they aren't complete idiots (hopefully) and know that you yourself are capable of doing this trip based on your knowledge and experiences.
You have "faith" that there is a god for no reason other than that you have been told there is one since you were a child. There is no evidence that you draw upon when chosing to believe in god, apart from things you fabricate as evidence such as "mircales" or whatever else.
