FKS Models? (years)

Hey just a quick question. I searchbar'd and Googled and etc but couldn't find what I was looking for. So, real quick, I just want to know what year the fks with the ORANGE around the din indicator on the toe piece is. I finally found out that the one I was comparing it to was the 07 (the one with gold around indicator and frame). I'll post pics if necessary later I'm just not at the computer atm and I need to figure it out soon. Thanks and +k for responses!

Yes. I tried to find pink ones buuut... no. Its because I'm deciding between those 2 models and they're in similar condition however if they're a year or two older that would make me think its more used than the other. Soo.. yup. It makes something of a difference

It doesn't matter what year they are.  They are the same.  They were both race stock bindings, and almost all of them came off of race stock skis.  A brand new binding could have 200 days on it and a 4 year old model could have 10.  You will be able to tell how much each has been used by the shape it's in.  The more scarred up the heel piece, the more days it has on it.

As long as all the parts are there and the AFDs are good, it's a good binding.

the orange din windows were the last year fks were produced before the restock of them last year, so i think 06 or 07 because there was at least one year where they weren't produced, maybe 2

the first picture you posted has toes from the gold ones and heels from the newer orange ones, that's a mismatched pair. the old gold heels are pretty much solid gold on the dildo area and those were made for a long time. before that they made them in black and yellow and before that they were black and yellow with a geze toe

You're wrong.  The FKS 155 that he has pictured has a different toe piece than your FKS 14s.  The 09/10 model was available with a wide break, and the vintage he has wasn't.

Hm. Good to know. So would it be advantageous to have the new heel? Would that have the interchangeable brakes so I don't have to disassemble the whole binding like in the stickied thread? That would be VERY nice if so. Thanks to all btw! Great info, quality posts. Save the one who thought they were 09/10... anyway.

they are the exact same(minus a few slight tweaks) so there is NO reason in wasting your money on the new ones. the new 14s do NOT have the same toe as the old 155s/185s, it the shitty less durable px 14 toe. no fks has ever had a traditional brake system, even with the new ones you will have to pop the bae plate off to take the brakes out, not like it really matters though, as rossi doesnt even sell aftermarket brakes for them at this time, in the past you have been able to buy replacement 80s, but never wider ones.

You're right!

I never noticed that but I'm really glad I didn't just say screw it and pro-deal a pair of the new 140's because yeah, they def have the same toe as the px14 which looks to be the same as the Look p14 also which is all plastic.

Too bad about the brakes though. Looks like I'll be spending some time getting to know my binders for a change.. Yeah, I have a 115mm ski so I'll have to really search for some new brakes or some I can bend.

Those would be the 155's from 06.07, same year as the all black 185's w/ 108mm break.

the gold ones you showed are from 04.05

they may have said 115, but they weren't. Every pair I have seen was under 110. Some were more around 105. Might be some at 115, I know the factory bend changes from pair to pair.

No, but you have never been able to buy breaks separately from the binding. Your not gonna find turntable breaks on their own.

FKS are like a golden ticket. Now that they're making them again, people arent being as stingy with the parts buckets the accumulated and saved up. I'm pretty sure you can get those stupid plastic baseplates from Rossi now on special order, see what your local shop can do for you.

Two years between a pair of FKS shouldnt fucking matter. If the bindings arent bent to hell and nothings broken, I'd use a 10 year old pair that has seen 60 days every season.

Dynastar supplies complete heelpieces minus the main dildo part. Just transplant the dildo onto the replacement unit.

Ok the black fks with orange windows are the last production year 06/07 the gold is 04-06.  Parts are available from rossi/dynastar and the new unramped baseplates with brakes will work with older production models.

the orange ones are from 07, but they had some left over that they still sold in 08, if your shop stocked them. they came in 12 (fks120), 15 (fk2155), and 18 (fks185) din version, the 15 and 18 having the non-axial toe.

from what i've dealt with, you can order new wide brakes for the new bindings since they released them this past season, but you need the binding serial number, aka they don't want to sell new brakes to people who still have the old bindings laying around. the new brakes will work with the old bindings no problem though.

also, if you don't know what an AFD is or why your binding has one, you probably don't need this binding.

If you find a good tech who gives a shit he can get you all the parts you need and bend your brakes to fit almost anything. I have. The biggest problem is the spot you put your pole to get out of the binding gets a hole in it and breaks the indicator. Rossi will not sell just that part because it not "user servicable". Most all years of FKS/Pivot bindings have interchangable parts.

The toes should be taken apart and cleaned and re-greased with lithium grease and the same with the heels. The 155 and 185 have the single pivot toe and are easy to do this to. Good luck.

I've not looked at the new bindings closely in my hands but from what I've seen on photos the baseplates are exactly the same. Rossi say delta zero on their site but Look doesn't. I say it's not. Look at the closeup here - http://www.rossignol.com/GB/fks-180-xxl_FKS180XXL_product_ski-men-bindings.html - you can clearly see the heel is way more than the toe just like any other Look/Rossi model.

When I asked Look for replacement parts for my old Rossi 155s I asked for the new style ones if possible but they sent the old ones with 75mm brakes.

Blue line = heel height. I'd say 5mm delta just like any other Look/Rossi. Anyone who owns the new ones care to comment?

Nah, there's a tiny gap there that would close when everything is locked down and drop 1mm. Those look identical in profile to the old models.

Can someone with a new mounted pair measure toe height (at the AFD) with heel height (at the curved plastic part behind the half-moon piece)? Use vice grips or an adjustable wrench if you don't have callipers, or just snap a boot in and measure from base edge to boot sole at toe & heel.

OK, I got a response from someone on good authority. The entire bindings are identical to the old ones. Heel unit is the same, baseplates are the same, brakes are wider, that's all. Toe units are the same but come with an additional 4mm riser and longer screws which when installed will bring delta to zero. I guess the riser just isn't shown on Rossi's photo. He said those risers and long screws are available separately to add on to old models. So the whole thing about the brand not wanting people to retrofit "new baseplates" to the old models is bogus. The only thing new is wider brakes (which you can bend anyway) and the optional toe riser.

Dude also said he's sure I've broken so many baseplates just because of releases when landing switch which torques the brake in the housing and cracks the baseplate. Still I'm sure I didn't release once on my fat skis this year and cracked 2 baseplates on those so who knows.

18 din, still same angle, never saw any risers.
14 din, zero angle, toe afd is much higher then on 18 din.

OK, so if my rep can hook me up with the toe risers would they be a good call? Will be getting new park skis to mount dead center and remounting my Thugs to for next winter anyway. Zero binding ramp would make switch riding on the park skis a bit more balanced, right? And shift my weight back a little on my fat skis so I can drive them forward a bit more?
