I want a HD camera

i wanna spend under 600 im kinda experienced i know what im doing tho and im looking to make a movie

He more or less meant not what your plans are for the camera, but do you know how to work one - adjust the focus? Change the exposure? Mess with the color levels? Create movement in your shots? That type of stuff. Knowing that helps determine how experienced you really are and how much is worth investing on a camera.

There's more too it than "I want to make a movie."

Ok so...... what kind of movie?  Just some ski edits being released on the internet?  A full length film?

What do you plan on editing in?  What can your computer handle?

In that price range I guess I'll just recommend an HV40 but don't think you'll get by with just a camera.  If you're planning on taking filming serious you'll want to invest in a tripod ($300 bucks +), a microphone (since no camera you get in your price range will have decent audio), and other accessories.

Filming isn't cheap and never will be.  The costs of technology is coming down but if you have a passion for filmmaking be prepared to drop some money on your gear.

In the end though, it's not what you film with, it's teh person behind the camera.  The camera is only a tool.  Picking the best tool for the job is important, but if the person using the tool is skilled they can create something amazing with just about any tool.

well my whole crew films eachother i know what im doing with all the technical stuff and my crews decent at filming eachother we wanna make a film but were not gonna go huge with it we wanna just post it and see what ppl think and give it out at school we take skiing so seriusly we do it almost everyday and 90% of those days we plan on filming we have a ledgit photo camera that we take pics with and now we want somthing that has great quality and can give us a great end product.. i realize stuffs expencive and were working hard to get cash but getting one of those 2000 dollar cameras just isnt gonna happen. Also, i have vegas and am decent at editing i still have alot to learn tho and im the same about filming but i feel that under 600 is the right price for a goood used camera that can give us a good vid

LAWL no. Not if he wants to actually learn how to film and make a real movie. A GoPro is a filler cam in a real movie at best - you can't really take artsy shots on a GoPro. Yes there are exceptions but good luck doing too much with it.

yeah i'd say go for the hv40. It's a little out of you price range, but it's definitely worth it for $649

Because the HV40 produces a much better image any other camera in that price range. other than some DLSRs

I recommend the HV30/40 all the time because it is not a difficult camera. It helps ease the user in to manual controls and the ideas of exposure and lighting, DOF and focus, etc, while still putting out a decent picture and providing some auto controls in case they get lazy. The HV series has proved to be a great learning camera and a stepping stone to higher level ones.

The HDDSLRs are deceivingly expensive - yes the bodies may not look to expensive but once you pile on lenses/batteries/tripod/viewfinder/recording media/everything else, they'll be pretty pricey, which goes along with the fact that they indeed are a relatively work-intensive camera and require some knowledge and effort.
