What car would you Buy?

A 2007 A4 2.0T 6 Speed Quattro that has 52k miles- $19,998

A 2005 Infiniti G35 6 speed that has 42k miles- $17,900

A 2006 BMW 330I that has 48K miles- $18,500

A 2007 Lexus 250 IS. That has 32K- $20,900

I need to buy a car, and I am in a dead lock debating between a few choices. Plus karma to anyone who gives real advise.

I'd go with the Lexus, very dependable. But since they are all used and I don't know much about them, it's hard to say which.

 and the BMW is Auto/ tiptronic as is the Lexus which has paddle shifting

I'd probably choose between the Audi and BMW just because of how baller they are. Plus realistically I hope you or your parents have money ready for when they break down. It's going to cost a pretty penny.

yeah... Maintenance on those two will hurt. That is a big part of what is evening the playing field. I have the money, if I need it, but it will hurt to spend any more seeing as my bank account is already gong to be hit for 20G's

It does have 298 HP though so we are not talking about anything remotely comparable to a Pinto...  It is probably the fastest car in the bunch. The Audi would hold its own I think, but the engines don't even compare. A 2.0L T V4  vs. 3.5L V6

bmw's handle weird(IMO), lexus=toyota with leather, infinity=well bad.

 so i guess that leaves you with the audi which is realy the only not gay choice

I would personally got with the IS 250 if it is an all wheel drive model.  The G35 if it is a coupe and you don't need to drive in the snow would also be swell.  The IS and the A4 are your best options though as far as practicality, in which case I would chose an IS.

Well what exactly are you looking for in a car? Do you need awd? (I guess not since your roomie has the jeep?) Do you want a sedan/wagon/coupe? FI vs. NA?

If it were myself, and I was basing this decision purely off of driving dynamics, it would be between the G35 and the 330i.

The G has significantly the most power out of the group. Nice, well performing gt cruiser. heavy (though all these cars are). Is this the coupe? If so, I would probably go this route (try to find one with the performance package). If it were the G sedan, I would go 330 over it.

I'm also a really big fan of the e90 (owning an e46, and spending tons of time in e90's as well, I can tell you that these cars do everything quite well).

I would test drive these two to decide which you like more.

The a4 is obviously a great car, but I feel that the 2.0t is underpowered for the car (though with minimal modding these engines can become quite beastly).

Though I haven't driven the 250, I have driven an is350. I just feel that compared to the first two options, you can do better for yourself than.


I know this overview is incredibly vague, and doesn't go into much detail for any of these cars. I've driven all of these (save the 250), and if you want any specific input, just pm me.

Your best bet is to just drive them all, and base your decision off of that.

Also, any of these with an EXTENDED warranty is a massive plus.
my e46 had this, and I had approx: 2500$ worth of defect repairs that would have otherwise come out of my pocket covered by bmw. Just a tip.

of these 4 cars, I would pick the Audi. 1. because I have a long history with Audi, my family owning 6 of them so far, and they are great cars, they take a bit of care but they can last forever, sold our old 5000 with over 300K on the motor and I totaled my old A4 with 200+K on the motor and chassis. Now with the Audi though, you will have more maintenance to worry about as it's about 28K from a major item, timing belt which is about a $700 job if you go to a shop.



The 2.0T is a strong engine and like someone above said with a chip and exhaust can be a very very fun car.


Then te BMW mostly because I'm not a huge fan of the E90 styling, I think they look a bit bloated and I prefer an E46, E30 to the E90. But that's personal preference having driven one myself they are very solid cars and a very good option still. Also the 330 motor is a beast and has tons of tuning potential.


after that Infiniti and then Lexus.  I choose this because Infiniti's are good cars but as someone else said pretty heavy and I just don't like Lexus' they are heavy, to soft sprung, underpowered or under engineered and made for old people to drive around in.


so that's my 2 cents. Drive them all and see what you like, I'd pick the Audi then the BMW then Infiniti then then a Truck, then the Lexus.

Fuck all those, if you have ~ 20K, get an BMW e46 M3, or get an Evo/Sti. If you are stuck with those cars, get the 330i, high revving silky smooth I6 with 255hp and RWD and it will run circles around those other cars. Is it CPO? In my experience with BMW they have been fairly reliable up, and I fix most of the shit myself so it's not expensive. My friend's Audi A6 2.7T is awful with only 80K, can barely get up to 100mph now.

Not really, just a new intake manifold, exhaust etc. I think you might be mistaking the 330 with the 335. The 335 has a 3.0 I6 with twin turbos. A chip for ~ $1000 can easily buy you an extra 80-100hp and 100+ ft-lbs. The 330 is a 3.0 NA with a magnesium/aluminum block, likes to rev, but not the ideal material for forced induction. An E46 M3 with 3.2L IRON block is a house, HPF has cars putting down over 800rwhp. M3 FTMFW

I agree though, for the price, I would definitely be looking at an M/sti/evo etc. first.

Honestly I would lean towards the G35. Out of the group its going to be one of the better drives and IMO look sicker, all they need is tint and those car looks 10x better. BUT ONLY THE COUPE.

You mentioned that only the G is 6spd. So if that is the only stick car, def get the G its cheaper and has less miles then the others to.

Otherwise I personally would go towards the Lexus (always liked that car very reliable and classy with a sports look) or the A4 for the AWD capabilites, they look sick, reliable and fun to drive.

Keep in mind that you may be dropping the 20 grand now for these cars and it may seem really affordable, But all these cars when they need to be repaired will cost you a huge chunk of cash just because of the name.

for ex. BMWs have problems with the window motor ( it gets junk stuck in the mjotor and you cant put down the window or its stuck down) it happens within 60k miles sometimes even 30k. And thats a few hundred dollar fix. another ex. I own a John cooper works, BMW made, and when i needed a new power steering pump it was about 750, and my new struts all cost me about 1.5k

Just keep that in mind for the future.

i would say get the bmw, but since its an auto id say no.
the a4 with a 6 speed would be a pretty awesome car,so id get that.
but honsetly there are cars for under 10 that id get over any of those cars. not that i dont like them, i just think there are better cars out there for alot cheaper.

A4 no doubt
i have an a6 and its sick
quatro is awesome for snow
6 speed tiptronic is fun to drive, but you can leave it in automatic, which is good for making beer runs
2.0t is pretty good power, but you will also get pretty good gas mileage
and the maintenance will cost more, but it will be less frequent, and the car will last for a long time

My a6 has a little over 130k and it runs perfectly smooth, and faster than pretty much any amerian/japanese cars that my friends have

e30 325ix, or any e30 really, e30 m3 e36 m3, (dont bother with an e46, worst m3 imo). audi coupe quattro, ur quattro, b5 s4, swapped older 2.5rs. evo 8 or 9. any generation miata. RX8(awesome and so underrated), mazdaspeed 3, s2000, bmw m coupe. legacy gt spec b. e34 m5, hell you could even find an e39 m5 for under 20.
and im sure there are plenty more that im not thinking of. alot of those would cost you around 10 or less. and i would easily take pretty much any of those over one of the cars you mentioned.
not that the ones you mentioned were bad, just not great.

I love the turbo, i love audis, i love the car, everything is great

my friend has a 2001 330xi, its a little faster, a little more deep and engine powerful (rather than turbo powerful). but the one you are looking at isnt awd...

i'd sick with the audi and the bmw, pick between those. and get stick for sure

I hear you but the mileage needs to be taken into consideration... buying a M5 is unrealistic unless you are looking at cars with over 100K miles or that is a  model from like 2003 or earlier. I need something low mileage otherwise  the car care costs will eat me alive.

I would get the G35 personally. Audi's can, without proper maintenance, break down more than other cares with the same amount of maintenance. The BMWs I never really enjoyed as a car in general.

alot of those are gonna be very reliable even with high mileage, especially the old bmw's. e30's and the e36 m3 will be very reliable even with over 100,000 miles, id trust an e30 to be reliable well over 200,000 miles.
IMO if i had 20,000 to spend, id go with an e36 M3 if you want rwd, you could find one in amazing condition for 20k, and its going to drive soooo much better than any new BMW or audi. if you want to be really cool go with an E30 m3, they are a little more expensive but you can still find one in great condition and low miles for under 20k. both are some of the best handling cars you will ever find.

that or an RX8, its one of the best driving cars ive ever driven, perfectly balanced, underrated power, reliable, just a perfectly balanced car.

if you want AWD id look at an e30 325ix, you could find a pretty much perfect one for 10 grand, 5 grand will buy you a really good one. pretty fast, handles great, and its a total beast in the snow. so much cooler than any wrx too. IMO its one of if not the best all around car there is.

you could always look for an evo 8 or 9, dont even worry about a 10, those are computer controlled heavy pigs. they are gonna be reliable when kept stock, but like any turbo car you start running into problems when you start trying to get tons of power out of it. dont even look at sti's. the evo is better in every way.

id look at VW R32's also, the first gen, super quick and snappy feeling, looks awesome, and super fun for cruising around, its kinda like an audi or subaru in that the car's much more fun being driven at 90% rather than 100%, since the cars handling flaw's come out when its at the limit, but since 99% of the time your going to be driving under the cars limit, its an awesome choice.

and for fwd id look at a mazdaspeed 3, a new gti or a mini cooper s.

all these cars i mentioned will be just as reliable as the cars you mentioned if not more.

dude, an e30 is going to be an older car, which is just asking for problems. Unless hes tight on cash (which hes obviously not), then he shouldnt be getting something older that will just create a headache.

i know two people with e30's and they have literally had no problems at all, only regular maintenance. one of them has over 270,000 miles and still drives great, he's owned it for about 5 years now and hasnt had to to shit, the other guy has had his for 3 years i think, almost 200,000 miles and he hasnt had to worry about anything either. a shop in my town had one that blew the original engine at 450,000 miles, put in a new one for like 1500, and kept on goin. parts are cheap too.
e30's are known for being the most reliable bmw's they are beasts. plus you could spend like 8 grand and find one with 70,000 miles and not have to worry about a thing. id trust one to be more reliable than any brand new audi, or most new cars.
