Thanks for sharing that, I love the TED videos. Its really exciting what the future might hold for us, he said it could be done within 5 years! I never really thought about it, that we only have one commonly used interface. Our knowledge of technology doubles every couple months, how come we haven't jumped on board yet?

I have no doubt that our interface with computer will drastically change in the future, however I am doubtful it will ever be this type of interaction.

You are still putting a 3d world in a 2d display.

And the interaction always seams cumbersome and excessive. He got tired by swinging his arms out there for just that presentation.

I think it will be a combination of several technologies. Using real world objects to interact with a digital display is the future. Imagine at a restaurant after dinner the bill shows up on the table display and you just put your credit card on the table then drag the items you paid for to your card.

The real innovation will come when you can form a direct link with a computer. This technology is probably 30-50 years away but imagine a computer with human equivalent intelligence directly connected to your brain. Like a Master Chief and Cortana or if anyone has read the Ender series, Ender and Jane. A computer that you can interact with on a person level that would complete tasks not suited for the human mind in an instantanious connection.

For example you could look at a data set and instantly have a graphical representation. Or have infrared sensors all over your body that the computer interpenetrates and gives you a real time 3d image in your brain of your surroundings.

But for now I think something more suited to tracking eye movements would be better than physically manipulating data with your hands, its just too cumbersome.
