Its really hard to tell with any knee injury what it is exactly, everyone feels it different and everyone has different reactions to how painfull it is. with both times i hurt my knees i knew right away i had to go to the dr.(both acl and miniscus) My brother on the otherhand played 2 rugby games on a blown acl and it just felt spongy and not right so he got it checked out. on my first one they did an mri just in case, they were almost positive it was just strained because it didnt swell up that bad and the basic acl tests the doc did made it seem like the acl was there, the mri came back and i blew it.
So basically if you have insurance and you can tell something isnt right id go in
