Iphone vs. Android vs. Blackberry vs. Windows Mobile vs. Palm

The future of smartphones. Where do you see it and why?

The current trend is Android gaining market share at the expense of Windows Mobile / Palm / Blackberry while Iphone hasn't gained or lost any ground.

eventually somebody will wise up and combine the most attractive features of each.

for example, the iphone needs a blackberry messenger type program, although maybe it has one already.

the blackberry needs to have a legit browser that actually is functional like the iphone.

i don't know much about the others but that's just what i would like to see

I think right now Android is the most innovative OS because of multitasking and all the freedom for developers. The new Droid and the Nexus One have absolutely huge processors.

I'm excited to see what Apple does with the 4g iphone to one up Android/ Google/ HTC.

I think the iphone should really be categorized in its own league. none of the other phones have everything that the iphone has and the software is really organized. Mac fans will always be leaning towards an iphone when getting a smart phone.

The fact that apple has total control of what apps they will sell is something I like. Any 12 year old kid can make an app for the android. The market place for android gets cluttered with shit apps because anyone can make a program for the phone.

The blackberry and android phones do have the price advantage but you dont get everything he iphone does.

My prediction is the other smart phones will lead for 10 years and then apple will start to dominate after people realize they are willing to pay for something that works well. Similar to the way windows was the most popular operating system and now macs are rapidly growing because windows fell apart over the years.

You really think apple having total control over development is a good thing? All that does is limit the amount of people working on products for apple. Apps for the droid will keep getting better make it hard for the i phone to keep up.

Trust me, I'm in a droid/iphone development class this semester and a 12 year old could not write an android app. Even with 4 years of java programming behind me its going to take me a while to get accustom to the extensive sdk for android.

My money is on the droid.

well i'm realy pissed off because my iphone has broken 7 times (hardware failure) in the past year and a half. I am currently boycotting apple and spreading the word of how much of a peice of overpriced shit they are.  ANDROID FTW

Android has just about all the must have iphone apps (except newschoolers.com) plus all of the google developed apps, which are worth buying the phone for alone.

On top of that multitasking, text to speech, and the way many apps are integrated together is basically the shit.

Im a mac fag, future graphic designer and will probably buy macs forever. But until the Iphone steps it up, Android is where its at.

i bought the HTC incredible about hmmm 2 weeks ago, and the screen smashed in less than a week after getting it, and then it smashed again last night. the screen is too fragile. im a pretty careful person of what i do with my phone and ipod, but i had my phone in my pocket, and my purse...thats not cool.

Typing on everything besides the blackberry sucks. It needs to have a real keyboard. Until something else has one I won't even consider anything besides BBY.

g1 has a much bigger keyboard for android

android hands down has the most potential, it is also going on the best phones available today- the main reason why android will dominate is the fact that it suppports hsdpa- which would be down load speeds of 7-14 mbs- think 14g- whereas most other operating system do not- the marketplace is huge, supports flash and is the only os working with adobe to bring out full flash on your phone-

as good as android is- it still doesnt compare to nokias os on their superphones- only problem is you cant take advantage of those phones in America due to only 3g- these are phones that can run on hsdpa- which is internet speeds faster than high speed cable internet

so while android is the fastest growing, most promising, etc- it still has a way to go compared to nokias os

I think it's essentially going to be a fight between Android and iPhone OS. Windows lost because Windows Phone 7 Series is coming to the market too late, and because of Microsoft's reputation with phones. Just look at the Kin. Palm lost because they aren't a big enough company to market their OS, and webOS's dev system is in complete disarray. HP might be able to get Palm back in, but I can't see that happening. Android is facing severe problems with fragmentation. There are like 60 different versions of the same operating system (i.e. Motorola's Blur, HTC's Sense). Froyo might remedy that, but we'll see. Blackberry lost a long time ago because their browser simply sucks. iPhone I think will gain mad market share. Think about the music industry before iPod. It's essentially the same thing. Once iPhone is on Verizon, I think that the game might be lost for Palm, RIM, Microsoft, but just getting started for Android.
