Torn ACL'S

recovery time varies on the person, how much/how hard you rehab, the surgery techniques used, where they take your new ACL from, and more.

Six months after surgery is what I'm expecting to do for mine. Some people take 8, some people take 12 months. If all you had to do was rehab your knee, without worrying about having a job, like NBA/NHL/NFL/MLB athletes, you can cut it down to 4 months, sometimes.

I had my acl repaird 6 weeks ago. Im already able to jog a mile (it gets sore afterwards though). Im hoping that I'll be able to do some riding at hood this summer, but Im not going to push it too much. The surgery hurts like a bitch afterwards though, nobody warned about that (at least not to the extent in which is hurts). Good luck, just do whatever your doctor and physical therapist tell you to do, and you'll be fine.

It was completely torn, they built me a new acl. I am having a really fast recovery, which i am very thankful for.

I had mine rebuilt in July. They said I was good to go in January, but I still cant run or cut or play lacrosse. The bone pain is said to go away in about a year.

i had mine done twice. completely obliterated. from what i have experienced its 3 months before running and jumping. the reason they take so long is because blood flow to the new acl takes time. the acl is usually weakest from 2 to 3 months. then it builds nice and strong. 4 months can work 4 skiing at its absolute lightest then 6 months is anywhere from 80 to 90 percent back to normal. a year will be 100 % normal.

i blew out my acl, and tore my mcl lcl and minsicus and had reconstructive surgery last may, i was able to ski fine all this season, just feels a little awkward at first, but definatley follow through with all your pt

i have blown out my acl and torn my meniscus. since i live in canada i have to wait a while for my surgery. wait time is a year, but im supposed to have it in a month (2 months after the incident). i guess i should be fine for ski season next year, but my summer is shot.

Funnily enough me too. Does anyone here have problems with there knee in terms of crunching? when i move my knee under even the slightest bit of stress it crunches like a motherfucker. It feels like its under my knee cap.
Anyone have this? id really like to know what it is.

i tore mine a few weeks ago at whistler man it was the stupidest thing cuz it was my first day 2nd run and all i did was catch an edge going really really slow and it tore my mcl and acl whats with that and now i need surgery and my summer is going to suck without doing anything active and im going to get fat and become one of those fat people that eat donuts all day

get a bicycle. and the popping can be from fluid pushing the muscle over the bone back and forth or fluid from swelling under the knee cap. nothing bad.

ya i have the popping thing when i ride the stationary bike at physio. it doesnt hurt much, but its really annoying and feels wierd.

I apparently tore my acl and pcl up at whistler last month. I just had my mri done last night. I go to see my specialist in a couple of weeks. I can run around and stuff so I dont know how bad mine is. Could any of you guys run and walk fine 3 weeks after it happened. I just wanna know how bad mine is cause i wanna ski next winter.

i was walking with a cane for the first week then then easily by week 2 walking normal.

that popping is caused by 2 things: swelling around the kneecap and bones, and also it can be your scar tissue being broken up as the bones move against eachother, which is good for your knee as long as it doesn't hurt.

i know it feels weird and sounds really loud and you think your leg is going to shoot off like a broken piece of a k'nex set, but it's pretty normal. i'm about 6 and a half weeks out of surgery, i got a cadaver allograph, and i am doing really well. i walk completely normal, i can jog, jump a little bit, balance really well, walk up and down stairs fine, ride bikes, but definitely no side to side movement or pivoting or anything like that yet. my cuts have healed up really nicely too, after the big one spit my internal stitch out that is...

Yeah the crunching is not like poping, similar to when you crack your knuckles.
It sounds way more hanus than that. it feels like my knee cap has rough edges under it and it happens if im in a sitting position with knee bent to 90 degrees. And then when i straighten my leg i get this unholy crunching. Its not painfull when it happens but if i do it like 3 or four times, a few minitues after it definitly aches.
I have no idea what it is but it DFINITLY wasnt there befor. ive had an arthroscopy to tidy the cartalige that i ripped and also to trim my acl down so it doesnt get in the way. COuld this have done it?

My dad just had surgery on his knee after fucking it up skiing a few months back. Funny thing is that it wasn't a bad stack he had, just nice and slow and in some powder. Think his problem was that his knee was worn away from years of being active and as such he won't be able to run much anymore, at least you shouldn't have that problem. I think they take about a year to be fully recovered?

^doesn't work that way in Canada. We get it for 'free', but it costs us in waiting lists, wasted time, and sometimes, a shat job. People who are already as good as dead matter more to the Canadian health system...

If the system were designed to keep people healthy, rather than just 'not dead', we'd be better off...

i had the surgery 3 weeks ago, i went to the best, stedman-hawkins.com located in vail, CO. there is a lot more rehab bullshit involed than i would have ever expected, but on a good note it is pretty much a pain free experience, except some discomfort from swelling, but it is getting better every week. my advice is not to skimp out,i didn't have any health insurance, and my bill is $25,000.00 and i'll prob be paying it off for most my life, but then again i expect to be throwing down by mid july at whistler. there is a few options though, Boyd easley did the same thing, although he had his ACL replaced by a pigs ligament, that shortens the recovery time because they don't have to graph you patella tendon (the tendon that runs from the bottom of the knee cap going down), therefore when the swelling goes down yor pretty much close to normal, although there is a much greater risk of your body rejecting the pigs tissue, and that can lead to nasty shit, infections and such. i wonder how he made out on that.
they might graph the other 'healthy' knees patella tendon depending how much damage is done,
but i completely teared my left ACL and didn't realize it for two mionths i continued to ski on it prob not the smartest thing i ever did but it's repaired now, they graphed my left patella tendon, Removed 1/3 of it ripped out the rest of the original acl, and screwd the tendon in place. again go to steadman-hawkins.com--they have a great website that explains most everything, and the help there is first class, although note, you won't be walking for about two weeks until after the surgery without crutches, and you start physical theropy the day after, they like to be 'aggressive' and it's a good idea to plan on sticking around for a good week or two after surgery so that you can work with not good but great physical therapist, that are use to seeing this kind of injury, and you want to make damn sure the surgent feels confident in his/her abilities, some one that repairs them alot. it's a real comitment-- i hope this helps good luck!

I had the patellar tendon graft too. Very important to do all the exercises they tell you. Overdoing it will not get you anywhere. Was able to ski lightly @ 4 months (small jumps w/ easy landings. no rails). If your doctor is being vague or not answering all of your questions, then by all means find someone else whou has a good history and u trust.

my doctor is the surgeon for the maple leafs and raptors so i have confidence. im having my pateller tendon grafted. i didnt know they could do it with your hamstring also. the doc just told me that the pateller is the best route.

My knees are always swollen, black and blue, and sore. But nothing like a torn ACL. I'm sure I'll tear it sometime though..
