that goal kick should have been a corner and everyone knows it. the match could have had a completely different outcome had that been ruled a corner like it should have been. oh well.

Spoken like a true bitter cunt. What you're doing right now is calling out the other team for faults that the Dutch were most guilty of. Wesley and Robben couldn't stay on their damned feet and other than De Jong not being sent off what other major call did the ref miss? Total football works, just not for the Dutch.

just glad i didnt care as much this time around.

watching all the pregame shows etc reminded me of how i felt before the final in 06. So excited, and full of hope...

hard to believe, another 4 years til the world cup comes back.

the dutch exaggerated contact, the spanish made it up. there was too many BS yellows and fouls, it ruined the flow for both teams but usually ended up with the spanish in possession or a dutch push stopped. the only call that favored the dutch all day was the yellow instead of a red on de jong's chest smasher that would have made Jean Claude Van Dam proud.

happiest day of my life. watched it with 10,000 fans in san francisco, 80% of whom were dutch fans. all of them talking so much shit at the beginning. i love it.

I watched the game with a completely objective point of view, I honestly couldnt have cared less who won but I was getting really annoyed by spains diving towards the end. In the beginning of the game there were some bad tackles that definitely warranted yellows for both teams (mainly the dutch tho)as well as de jongs which probably should have been a red. but for some reason at the end of the first half and throughout the entire second half spain decided to dive A LOT mostly david villa and iniesta.

Worst play of the entire game was when spain had the ball at the top of the 18 and THREE spanish players blatantly dove in a span of 5 seconds to try to get a call, it was fabregas iniesta and one other guy. It was incredibly obvious and even worse they whined to the ref about how he didnt call anything after the play.

The netherlands dove a little bit but they were pretty much always just responses to spanish dives that were called like 30 seconds before.

Although the officiating wasnt bad enough to call the game rigged there definitely should have been some yellows handed out to spaniard for diving which would have kept the players on their feet throughout the rest of the game. Once a ref starts telling players to just get up and handing out yellows for obvious dives then the diving usually ceases to exist because the players realize that its not going to work.

I love watching soccer but hated to see diving take a role in the final. It happened last year with the italians throughout the entire tournament and I thought there would be much less of it since the fucking italians shitted on themselves in the group stage but I guess I was wrong.

just for the record, the post of mine he quoted was about a different game, not the final. spain dove way more today, which is saying something, and beyond that it was just a bad game. ugly and so many missed chances

despite his diving and several missed chances iniesta played awesome, he was everywhere. it was nice to see fabregas out there and making some stuff happen, he was always a favorite and i missed seeing him play a lot in this world cup

torres still sucks, if he's hurt, don't play him at all, but don't let him pull THAT shit

My closing thoughts on the WC, I really enjoyed watching the matches. However soccer players should be forced to watch rugby highlight videos prior to matches. Maybe then they wouldn't trip over each other and feign injuries as often.

As a completely neutral party, I watched the game and felt the ref did a good job overall. There were a few instances that contact was very exagerrated, but that happens everywhere. He gave the benefit of the doubt and only yellowed what could easily have been a red, and played the advantage when the Robben fought through a foul and gained a breakaway, which was the right thing to do.

I feel that Spain did play the better match as well.

Congrats to Spain, and condolences to Holland. It was a good run no doubt!

typical dutch to blame the referee, we lost, deal with it. It sucks bigtime, holland could have won, but they didn' t don' t blame the ref, he wasn' t even near bad enough to blame him for losing the game.

Oh and congrats to Spain. Iniesta's dive was fucking bullshit though, ref shoulda seen that. I can't believe the AR's fucked up a couple corner kick calls though.
Iniesta and Xavi basically won the game for Spain with their possession skills. Robben choked and should have had at least two goals, im sorry but that World Cup level, you should not screw up those chances. All he had to do was fake out the goalie and he could have dribbled in.. Anyways, Awesome game and the ref did not need to give out that many damn cards. However, the ref did a decent job. Netherlands just could not put it into the back of the net. Im sure Robben is losing sleep over his fuck ups, but holy shit that fucker is fast. They just didn't use their players to their full potential

And he isn't even up to his full potential, because he got a serious injury just a week before the world cup. He is one of the fastest players I've ever seen.
But the silly thing is that one action from him should have gone in with pretty much 99% of all keepers. That Casillias has reactions like a cat.

But it's all over now, there's nothing we can do.
We can blame all we want but it's not gonna change a thing.

if you toss a cleat karate kick and dont even get a yellow the whole "foul argument" is kinda moot on your behalf. you could have been down a player for the entire game and you still fucked it up. yall are some sore losers, the dutch had PLENTY of dives as well.

Those teams play with a close modern equivalent to total football in a 4-3-3 formation. ButI would argue neither team matches the style of the Dutch national side or the Ajax side of the early seventies and that they lack the constant switching of positions, which was a cornerstone of the original Total football philosophy.

Rinus Michels the inventor of total football managed Barcelona for a brief period of time and left his mark.
But nowadays not a single team plays the original total football.
