germany dominated serbia with 10 men, they just couldn't score. and if anyone is on the bandwagon its spanish supporters

spain should be out right now. disallowed goal in the first half and paraguay's penalty should have been retaken too as the spanish players ran into the 18 before it was hit.

the ref made xabi alonso retake the pk because spanish players ran into the box before it was hit. the same thing happened on the other end for paraguay when cardozo hit his first pk.

I think it became even weirder when he didn't gave another penalty to Spain because that keeper just swiped Fabregas completly.

doesn't matter if it happened at every penalty. the ref made the right call according to FIFA rules so you can't argue.

straight from fifa rulebook:

"The players other than the kicker are located: at least 9.15 m (10 yds) from the penalty mark"

If the referee gives the signal for a penalty kick to be taken and, before

the ball is in play, one of the following situations occurs:

"A team-mate of the player taking the kick infringes the Laws of the Game: if the ball enters the goal, the kick is retaken"

It's just the inconsistency.

It happens at every single penalty kick and it's nearly never retaken because of it.

But let's put that aside, I'm more surprised the ref dind't see the blatant tackle from the keeper on Fabregas. right after the third penalty.

Honestly even though they played pretty bad today, Argentina is my favorite team to watch. Nobody puts an attack together like them and the speed they do it at is ridiculous. The opponents could be taking a corner kick and at the blink of and eye Messi, Tevez, and higuain are already down the field thanks to a scheme of intricate and speedy passes. Definitely my favorite team to watch.

Spain has quicker and more intricate passing and Germany has a better counter, as I'm sure you saw today. Argentina is shit mate, a badly coached and organized team.

Todays matches were great, very entertaining. There's three teams in it now, I've still got Spain winning especially if they get Torres out of it. Germany though is insane, when those players pull on a German jersey they suddenly become superstars. Klose is 1 goal away from tying Ronaldo for all time World Cup goals.

for all you guys laughing at the reff for giving so many yellows and pks in the spain paraguay game...

i really dont think you get the fact that both yellows were givin because the fouls that were commited denied or could have denied an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

pique brought down one of the paraguayins by grabing his arm and throwing him to the ground. that to me seems like an obvious yellow

for david villa's foul...that was just so obvious. Villa might have doven just a little bit but it was obvious that he had a chance to score and the guy that brought him down should have actually gotten a red because he was the last defender back and took villa out from behind.

none of those yellow cards were unnessesary, infact one of them should have been a red

Suárez's strike partner Diego Forlán, who had scored Uruguay's equaliser in normal time, backed the actions of his team-mate. "When they had the last-minute penalty, I couldn't believe it, I stopped thinking. When he [Gyan] missed, I couldn't believe it again. Everyone is so happy. It was a tough game and we knew it was going to be very difficult and the way it finished was incredible."

Forlán believes Uruguay deserve their success after coming through a demanding South American group to reach their first semi-final since 1970. "Qualifying in South America is really tough because Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Chile are great teams with good players," said Forlán. "You play at altitude, in warm weather, in cold weather, different types of climate and pitches and it's really tough.

"But we also knew once we qualified this was going to be a different tournament and we just focused on each game. We were not looking forward to what might happen, just looking at the game in front of us. Every game is difficult whether it's Brazil, Holland or Ghana.

"It doesn't matter about the history of the country or names of the players on the pitch. It doesn't matter because this World Cup has had some surprises."

i don't think you can blame him for what he did. he is at the world cup to do everything he can for his country to move on in the competition. he, just like any other pro footballer, is aware of the rules of the game and took the necessary action to keep his team alive in the world cup. any professional footballer might have done the same.

in this case you can't blame suarez for doing something in the game, the rules are the rules, if anything blame FIFA for an inadequate rule for these situations

This is ironic coming from a fan of the Netherlands, perhaps the greatest underachievers of all time.

Sure Suarez did what he had to do, that doesn't change the fact that it's a disgusting display of sportsmanship and blatant cheating. To then come out and claim that his save has out done one of the greatest ''goals'' of all time just proves how much of a cunt he is.

Anyways, your boys in orange got terribly lucky against the best team in the world. They'll get a proper smashing from Germany or Spain, maybe even Uruguay. Then all the Netherlands ''fans'' can back to hibernating for 4 years.

How? I dont see how a nation of 16 million can 'underachieve' by being so good year after year...

1974? Should have won it... but granted, Germany was amazing back then, AND the host nation.

1978? Should have won it... but I seriously think that shit was stitched up by the Argentinian dictatorship they had in power back then...

They still won euro 88... it's not like they are trophyless... and winning euro is a hell of a lot better than a true underachiever like England has done every year they havent hosted the tournament... or Spain until euro 2008...

we lost due to PK's in euro '92 AND '96, WC '98 and then AGAIN in '00 during the european championship (where we missed two ingame PK's against italy)

This. I wasn't talking about penalties specifically. I just find it terribly boring how every time a major tournament comes around Dutch fans come out of no where all high and mighty, as if they were God's gift to football despite having a history of underachieving. And let's not play the number game, Uruguay has a population of just over 3 million people and they've won twice.
