I am almost glad the US didnt tie it up at the end of added time, the intensity of penalty kicks would of driven me insane! I just watched the the Japan Paraguway penalty shootout (first ever world cup, so first ever penalty kick watched during world cup), and the nerves I got were huge, and I didnt even favor one team above the other! (I really didnt mind, it was the first time either team would go to quarters)

wow i didn't know the NS population knew so much about soccer... new found respect and +karma to most of the people that have posted in this thread... DingoSean was spot on on his comments on Johan Cruyff and his playing days with the dutch team and his former club ajax!

and yeah maradonna was an incredible player, one of the best ever. could have done great things for the game... to bad he sucks ballz and sniffs too much coke nowadays... arrogant prick!

i don't know why people are saying that bradley needs to be fired. he is a great coach and has taken the US into a whole new level in terms of play and team unity.

Yea man, a good deal of NSers know quite a bit of soccer, there are a few other threads that are also multiple pages......

And agreed, Bradley does not need to be fired, we should be proud of advancing out of group play, that by itself is something to be proud of. Yea winning would have been nice, but still.

they made it to where they should have based off their rankings and talent.

However, they could have gone further if they didn't suck balls the first half of each game.

The polar opposites in the teams in games from first half to second alludes to a coaching issue. Fired? Perhaps not that drastic, but a fire should be lit under his ass and a little fear to force some persuasion and first half results from his squad might not be a bad thing.

I agree. I don't really like his player selections, at all. I don't know how they select their players if Bradley is the one that does it or what, but he needs to get some more players with more experience on the field. Our first touches were horrible and our constant trying to chip balls into the middle of 8 defenders over and over is not a good strategy at all. We need trickier dribblers and people who can hold onto the ball easier when there is pressure. Honestly, If I was the coach, I would make alot of big changes with the team lineup now. Dempsey is medicore at best, Howard is pretty damn good but some games he lets in easy ass goals that I could probably stop, Altidore may be good in the future, but his first touch is often pretty bad, Donovan however is a strong player. Bradley is pretty strong too and has good stamina, but his dribbling skills are questionable too.

You watch say Brazil, the fact that every player on the field has an excellent first touch and pretty damn good dribbling skills. I really hate to see the US try long balls over and over, that shit didn't work in high school and won't work now. Fuck I would seriously nominate Alexi Lalas as a coach before I would put Bradley in again.

i actually love how this ref isnt calling shit on ronaldo
its like some kid who cried wolf type of situation, instead of trying to figure out when hes diving and when its legit, he just isn't calling anything at all any time he falls. ronaldo is getting what he deserves in my opinion, and i think all the refs should have that attitude, and not just on ronaldo

Sorry mate but you really need to cunt off, almost everything you've said in this thread has proven you have no prior knowledge of footy. Just watching Argentina play you can tell how badly managed they are, they'll get properly fucked by a real team.

I have been playing soccer ever since I was old enough. Yea i haven't been following every team in every damn tournament all over the world, but I know how to play the game and know what it takes to make a good team. Argentina is gonna mop the floor. I don't believe they have lost a game yet, so how the fuck can you say they are badly managed? Seriously, management only takes a team so far, its the players that decide it in the end.

I hope a team does give Argentina a run for their money, but to ignore their skill level and ability to score and hold onto the ball is just plain wrong. Who do you claim is a "real" team then?

They havent played anyone yet who's really got a serious counter attack...

That, and Mexico played awful against them... They gave Argentina too much space on attack, and committed too many players to the counterattack. Argentina would gain enough ground, that mexico had to fall back to defend more, and that ruined their ability to counter quickly.

That and Argentina has some world class defenders, and they were able to capitalize on their chances to mark against inexperienced forwards who aren't the best at positioning.. They'll still get humped by someone like spain or holland or... just about anyone who pulls everyone into the counterattack, and overwhelms the box - and has experienced forwards and attacking midfielders who know how to position themselves right.

As much as i am lucky and stoked to be going to momentum, IM MISSING THE QUARTER AND SEMI FINALS OF WORLD CUP :(!!!!

I will however be up at 7am in whistler to watch the germany vs argentina game.  And not being able to watch spain facing whoever wins the germany/argentina game is going to be torture.

2-1 is a pretty realistic score for the first game tomorrow, although i think the defence will be really tight, so it might just be 1-0. Netherlands has not been challenged yet but they have played excellent, interesting to see how they will perform against a world class team like brazil. No doubt Brazil has played good, but I don't think they have nearly as much team chemistry and drive as in previous world cups. Shaping up to be a good match, but I'm thinking Netherlands are going through this time around. And the outcome for the second game tomorrow is heavily dependant on Ghana's performance, we know Uruguay will be strong and solid as they have throughout the tournament so far, Ghana have been on and off. If Ghana plays as good as or better than they did against the US i think they are going through.

if ghana plays to the same level as they did against the us, they'll lose at least 2-0. uruguay might not have many big names as the other remaining teams but those fuckers can ball. ghana has yet to impress me, while uruguay has far exceeded my expectations
