The whole world is going to hell, but desmond has the failsafe key, which he turns and saves the day (sidenote, he IS the failsafe key in the final season, correlation)

They became known as the oceanic six, and they go back when eloise tells them a way to go back on the alira flight. She is daniel faraday's mom. She coincidentally shoots him at the end of season 5 in the 70's Oh yeah, Ben kills locke here, so he's dead at this point.

The island does not stop flashing through time, allowing the survivors on the island to find jin, who was still flashing thorigh time as well. Locke turns the wheel, the flashes stop, but they stop in the 70's, thats how they end up there
