Ski Colleges:Boulder vs. UBC

Uhh, talk about off track.

1. UBC is a great school depending on what you want. Great professors there and it's really cheap compared to the US. Basically it's much cheaper and you still get a good education.

2. BC Bud, worldwide known for a reason. Anybody who says anything else is stupid. There's good pot elsewhere too but BC Bud is great and cheaper than most places.

3 Legal age is 19 in BC...

4. Vancouver is a great city, period. Lots of hot chicks, great partying and you're right on the ocean. It's got everything.

5. SKIING! Whistler is an hour and a half from UBC. You've also got Grouse, Cypress and Seymour around a half hour from UBC. Seymour has a really well known park now too, some big skiers have come out of it. Nevermind WHISTLER being an hour and a half away. Plus if you want to do a road trip, there are some amazing hills in the interior and the Canadian Rockies. Can you say world reknown backcountry? Depending on where you go as well, tons of great powder.

6. Depsite what some of you say or say you know and really don't. Canadians are no weirder than Americans so whoever said we're strange or whatever you said is retarded. Canadians are great , fun people. You'd have a riot chillin with em.

As far as pot goes, boulder is hippi/rasta infested, therefore boulder too has good pot. So it looks like they're pretty much evenly matched. ahhh, but Boulder will soon have Jibij.

LoL, any culture is odd compared to another but still, Americans and Canadians are pretty similar. If people can't put up with minor differences then, wow. Anyways, settle down there Phrosty, I'm not saying where to go, merely pointing out how UBC actually is. I don't know shit about Boulder so don't have an opinion. Merely saying that it ain't a coincidence that Vancouver is nicknamed Vansterdam and has been rated for the last few years (I think, haven't checked High Times lately) the best place in the world to be for pot, something like that. Nevermind being rated one of the top places in the world to live.

Ya, I'm from around there, born and raised. Proud of our city brotha. I just spent the winter working at Lake Loise and found out about New Schoolers and this thread seemed interesting. Van City owns.

are you guys kidding me? what are you on Crack? The answer is clearly CU... 5 mountain pass to Breck, Vail, Beaver Creek, A-basin, and Keystone for 300, hot girls, and tons of partying... not to mention Winterpark, Copper, and all the other badass Ski areas in CO. I have also completed a formula known as the hot girls to clothing ratio theory being a student there... for every 5 degree drop in temperature multiply the population of chicks by 1.8 and remove one article of clothing... this is what kind of wonderful educational tools you can expect to find in Boulder

im confused. wouldnt they loose clothing as it got hotter rather than colder?

there have to be more schools for skiing besides these two

and im still a lil confused, but how close is the nearest skiing to boulder, because everybody is saying something different

^the nearest ''skiing'' is eldora, which is about a half hour, but the closest real skiing is WP and copper, about 1 - 1 1/2 hours away, depending on traffic and how fast you go

but i fuckin hate boulder, i totally wanted to go to CU, but the fact that it's in boulder made me go to CSU instead. it's a good thing JibiJ is opening so i can actually have a reason to want to go to boulder

Keystone (between and 1 and 1 and a half hrs)
A-Basin/Loveland (slightly closer than keystone
Breck - )add another 20/5 minutes)
Vail - (2 hours)
Beaver-Creek - (2 hours 15 minutes)
Aspen -(3 and a half hours)
Winterpark -(1 to 1 and a half hrs)
Copper-( 15/20 minutes less than vail)
Eldora -( 30 minutes )

you can always get a ride up with some friend cause everyone is always going up during the winter... I've hitched back a few times myself even... but it is also longer comning back almost always from traffic

that always confused me strode why did you choose csu it just adds like another hour to all your ski driving (both ways)

Wow, nard, that really sucks... you're paying more for less at your school and your inferior resorts are farther away, and cost more for a season's pass. I think you're in denial, unless you can come up with some other reason...

OK let me end this thread. i havent lived at any of these places but i have visited all of them, some mutiple times so i do have a fairly reliable source here
currently i have 2 friends that are attending boulder and 2 more headed out this year. AND let me first say boulder is the biggest rip off in the entire world. Boulder is not a hippie town (Granted there are a few 'hippies' in boulder but 99% of them are just rich suberban kids who wear tie-dye and use there parents credit cards (and let me just say that i am one of those kids, minus the money from the rents), sorry but its true its just a bunch of rich kids living off there parents money litening to stoner music, dont get me wrong Boulder is an amazing school and if i could afford it i would be going there but i think its just a waste of money, paying 35,000 a year of college is just a complete waste and the education is just not worth it, Boulder is and is not a ski town, yes there are a lot of skiers there but any good ski hill is still 2 hours away

Van city is by far one of my favorite cities i have ever been too, its so beutiful and all the people are nice (thats what i love about canadians) i dont know much for the education there but i know the city is amazing, skiing at whister is amazing, and let me just point out THE BUDS IN BC ARE 100X better the canadian buds, more affordable and easer to get too, just all around better buds.

If you wanta go to college for skiing then hands down go to UTAH (thats where i will be headed) they have atleast 7 ski hills within 45 mins away, have a great city to live in and the schooling is affordable unlike boulder. Yes its a little dryer in UTAH but it is getting better every year, and anyone who complains about the mormons are just a dumbfuck who have never been to utah because they are nice people, they dont bother you and they wont affect any collge drinking (as long as you are living there its not gonna be a problem to find what you are looking for because so much has changed now that the skiing is taking off and there are more touists so the laws are starting to be relaxed)

BC is better for schooling...
UBC is really well known and you can't beat the price. It's WAY cheaper here. nevermind the exchange rate... Other than that, you're dead on the money. I can't argue the skiing because I haven't been to Utah.

i feel like most people replying to this have no idea what they are talking about. i can't really say anything at all about ubc or canada for that matter because i've never been there. i've been going to school in boulder for three years so i'm obviously biased but i think it's the greatest place on earth (a little exaggerated). boulder is not a hippie town. you will see hippies but you will never know one. there really aren't that many. and it's true that there a lot of rich kids and some of them are douche bags. but cu's campus is incredible, it honestly has to be one of the tightest campuses in the country. you will not find hotter girls anywhere. the party scene is ridiculous. i've never really smoked pot outside of colorado but i'm pretty happy with the shit that i do smoke. there are a ton of cool people and i love so you should to. an hour and a half to the mountains isn't THAT bad.. and i grew up in aspen where it was only fifteen minutes to the mountains. i usually sleep most of the way and am too hung over to even attempt staying awake. i can't think of any more good things to say because i'm tired. seriously though, boulder is off the yellzabob. i would go there if were you.

and to the kid who said something about csu, i hope you die.

as much as a 'ripoff' as CU actually is, it does keep people coming back. I go to the engineering school which is top 20 in the nation, so i know that school isn't horrible education. obviously different strokes for different folks so a decision of where to go cannot be completely decided by someone else, as you need to follow whats best for you interests. I personally don't think i'd be happier anywhere else.

ok, one it is not a ripoff... cause i came out of state figured out all these loopholes...but basically by registering to vote getting a job and living there i pay in state tuition now.... and to whoever said CU is not a ski town, what the hell are you talking about? where have you been? The deal is that CU is a huge school, so you are gonna run into every type of person there... the fake rich hippies...the diehard skiers, etc... either way i bet both BC and CU are both awesome... it just depends on the person you are i guess... and the fact that CU rules way more...





I promoted my CVS and Stop and Shop card from the inside slits to the outside ones...my Blockbuster and gym ID got pissed off, but I told them, sorry guys, laminated plastics just can't cut it in the big leagues

I'd say go to UBC.
-It's cheaper
-your dollar will go farther resulting in more beer money
-You can drink two years sooner
-Whistler is super close
-Interior mountains make for a good weekend trip
-Three local mountains to chose from, all of which are less than 15 minutes away.
-Vancouver is the sickest city on Earth...
-Canadian girls, nuff said.

i dont no why u are asking other people where u should go to college, where you go to college should be completely ur decision, its where u are going to be for 4 years not a random person on newschoolers that probly has a very biased opinion

I go to CU. I also visited UBC. Basically UBC is so sick. The campus blows away CU's campus. I mean CU and Boulder are beautiful, but you don't have the ocean so... Vancouver is a much much cooler city than Boulder. It is actually a metropolis, and has lots of diversity which is a plus in my book. It is a costal town which I loved because I grew up in Denver, so it is something I do not have much exposure to.Boulder and Denver weather is great if you like sunshine. Boulder gets more sunshine than any other city in the country I am pretty sure. I personally like it when it is rainy though, so Vancouver rocks. And the women that I saw in Vancouver, well, let's just say I have a thing for sexy asian women and there were lots in Vancouver. .Boulder girls...some hot ones and some cool ones, but the majority of I couldn't give to shits about. You guys can have your stuck up spoiled Cali girls, I don't want to even be around them. UBC is a great university. As said above it is one of the top Universitys in the world. CU has some good programs, the Engineering and Business programs being some of the better ones at CU. Size wise, CU is pretty damn big. However, UBC is at a totally different level, if I am not mistakes UBC has someting like 100,000 students.

Skiing in Boulder is ok, but commuting up I-70 sucks on the weekends. If you really care about skiing and that is why you come to CU then get a few days off during the week and ski then when the traffic and the hills aren't crowded. To sum up this rant, If i had to do it again I would have probably gone to UBC if I could have gone for the same price as CU. CU is a great school, but there are many better university out there, even for skiing. To be honest one of the main reasons I really went to CU was because I get in state tuition. And for that price, there were very few schools that could match CU. But, for all those kids that come from Cali, Chicago and New Jersey because "I wanna smoke mad budz" and "boulder is so chilll dudeeee" they are wasting there fucking money. There are so many spoiled rich kids with oblivious paretnts that send their kids to CU for seemingly no reason. The people in Boulder just straight piss me off sometimes.There are some awesome really cool people here but there are also: Filthy rich people, and the worst of all, stuck up Hippys. there is not nothing worse than a stuck up hippy. You know waht I mean, the people that think the world should worship them because they rock climb, smoke pot, claim to be buddhist, and are white with disgusting dreads. If you have to pay 30,000 a year to come to CU, why? The only reason I can see is if you don't pay for your own school, or you want to study business or engineering.

If you really only want to go to school to ski then try MSU or something like that.
