but id imagine the typical ivy leagues along with mit, ucla, stanford, cal-berkley, harvey mudd, and other "tech" schools

Hey, I go to school with the intent of being an aerospace engineer. Aersospace engineering isn't an accredited college major, but an alternative is to major in either electrical or mechanical engineering at a university that offers aerospace courses. I attend the University of Vermont and they do a lot with aerospace, and I know that Ohio Northern and WPI also offer great courses as well.

Also to help, you may want to look into getting an internship at an aerospace company. I've been working at Hamilton Sundstrand in the past along with this whole summer, and I can't tell you how great of an experience it is. I learn more about engineering doing hands on work there, than I do at school. Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions.

thanks, ill check those two places out. One of my friends cousins made 80k the first year out of college with electrical engineering. pretty intense.

i have a friend that did aerospace at CU. He's really smart and is now at MIT getting his PhD. He's working on Mars landers or some shit like that. Pretty cool.

Yeah, it's a great career if you want to make a ton of money, but it does take a lot of time and effort to get there. I make about 15k a summer at my internship and am already guaranteed a job at United Technologies when I graduate.

i work in the industry on the electrical/computer side. cu boulder gets the most funding from nasa and has amazing opportunities to get involved with the industry (hence my job). the only problem is 99% of aerospace engineers here are massive douche bags

ohio state has a really good program.  they just recently built a huge ass aerospace building with a wind tunnel and a bunch of cool stuff.  I don't go there or anything but I visited and I was really impressed. check it out on their website

also, CU boulder is way way way biased toward the space side so id look elsewhere if you like aircraft stuff more than spacecraft/orbit stuff

Aerospace/ Aeronautical Engineering is a great program to get into.  The coursework can be tough but even if you are mildly interested in aircraft all of the classes will actually be entertaining.  You'll learn more about planes than you ever thought there was to know.  Plus the class sizes tend to be much smaller as it tends to be a small program

Unfortunately, it is not extremely easy to get a job as an aero engineer.  If it means a lot to you,get to know your aero professors, they usually have connections within the industry.  The good news is that an AE major is more than equipped to become an Mechanical, Systems, Manufacturing, etc Engineer out of college where there is plenty of jobs available.  Many of these jobs are actually in the aerospace/defense industry.

a silly degree IMO, why not just get a mech degree. aero is one of the hardest degrees with the least amount of jobs

Because when employers are pouring over hundreds of resumes submitted by ME majors for a ME job and the come across a resume from an AE major, they stop to look at it for a second.

At my university you only have to take 4 more classes to be a double major of ME and AE. Those four classes are pretty tough though. I think its propulsion, aircraft design, and I don't remember the other two actually. Either way you have till the end of your first semester junior year to make the desicion....If you get there.

I want to be a pilot in the air force and i need some type of an engineering with air craft if I want to be a pilot (with better chances of being accepted) or I would like to get into something with NASA.

those are some of the best universities in the UK for aerospace and aeronautical engineering, if it's for US colleges then i have no idea....

I go to WPI which has a pretty good aerospace program. It also has air force ROTC which i believe can be tied in with the aero major... sounds like your into that stuff? Im a mech engineer but its almost the same thing, and a bunch of my good friends are aerospace, so if you have any more specific questions feel free to hit me up.
