right forum? anyways what should i get. not sure if i want a truck or not but i want something good in weather and that will last. anyone have either of these? pros? cons?

i dont particularly like jeeps to much but they are fun as hell to drive. they just feel different than any other car to me.

You need to look at the subaru forester, and some used honda ridgelines. both of these vehicles last and have really good resale values

whats the budget?
what do you want to do with this whip?

chevy silverado is sick, get a quad cab, a standard bed, 4x4, either a manual or auto tranny, whichever you want. it should haul the tribe wherever you wanna go, same goes for dodge ram, i guess an f-150 would do the same thing, only, its a ford. i dunno if thats an issue for you, if you're not that into cars, just get whatever truck has the nicest stuff for the money.

id recommend just doing a full size pickup, it will haul the most shit, and be the most manly of all the things you're lookin at.

tranny fails alot in new wranglers apparently, i want a midsize truck cuz i live in the city and need to be able to park in small spots etc. you think chevys a better call then gmc? ive looked at both and theyre like the same car

hmm... well if you're so worried about it, then i'd cross the jeep liberty off too. realistically i'd be very happy with a forester, it's a very high quality and capable car.

CERTAIN jeeps are crap.  i wouldnt get a liberty, patriot, or compass because all of those are pretty cheap quality and break a lot, but grand cherokees, wranglers, rubicons, and commanders are still great vehicles.

look, i drive my truck, with an 8.5 foot bed, and i can pretty much park wherever the hell i want, can i parallel park in tiny ass little spaces? no. i couldnt with an s10 either

Just buy a diesel and make a fucking spot...

But seriously you can't fail with a diesel. Very low maintenance, can tow basically anything with ease, and steezy as hell.

for one thing, you probably can't afford to fix it. you will not get decent mileage and you'll have more power in a truck thats probably bigger than you want.

heres a brief rundown of what a 24 valve cummins will do to you, this being the best diesel out there right now.

the lifter pump will die, but you wont be able to tell, which then kills the injector pumps. and now you cant drive it, or afford to fix it.

heres parts cost on that;

lifters; 700
injectors; 2700

sooo 3400 bucks in parts before labor, with other stuff getting fucked up at the same time.

and maintenance isnt very low at all...

dont get me wrong, we love our diesel, but have spent too much on it to recommend it to a yound kid. plus, you cant work on them yourself.

I've had a 24v for 3 years, and my Dad has had a 12v for 10 years. Never had a lifter pump go out. All he's had to do was get a new intake heater and that set him back about $85. Overall I'd say in 10 years of service, minus tires, he's spent all of a grand on it.

Have you seen the new Foresters? They look really nice. Along with the new Outbacks. Foresters have the room you want, get great gas mileage, handle better than your two current choices, and will out-last your two current choices. If you enjoy paying more for that shit truck or shit Jeep because they haven't been labeled a "lesbian" vehicle, then go for it. Otherwise, the Subaru seems like a great choice. Maybe you would like a 4Runner, or a Tacoma. Those three I just recommended will blow your current options out of the water.

Go find an 89 Toyota 4 Runner.
They last forever and literally go anywhere.
Plus you can take the roof off in the summer and it looks sweet.

My dad still has his 88 he bought brand new off the lot. 400000+ kms on it. still runs like a beauty

ive looked alot at the 4 runner recently too, thats a good option. also thinking about a for escape cuz i know a bunch of people that drive them and say they run awesome and get goo mileage

12v is an entirely different animal than a 24v

on our dodge we've spent a shit ton of money, if you run them hard then there will be a problem.

well, on my dads, we're pushing over 800 ft lbs of torque, and pulling very large loads frequently. my friend has the same truck as my dad and just pulls a horse trailer every now and then and hes been fine

I'd say a 4-runner as well, but not a new one. Almost all of the new SUV's are huge gas hogs that are more for comfort and style than anything else. SUV's from the 90's are smaller but have more ground clearance and will be much better in off-road or snowy conditions.
I just hate seeing huge vehicles with shitty clearance and stupid low-profile tires.
