RED DAWN REMAKE - This time, the Chinese invade...

So, I've been on a recent Cold War movie watching spree... (think Dr. Strangelove, Hunt for Red October, Fail Safe, Crimson Tide, and all the awesome Sylvester Stallone epics)

And I decided this morning to watch Red Dawn - which is a timeless classic from 1984, where a bunch of kids become partisans and with absolute ease, dominate the invading Soviets and Cubans and stuff. (if you want to watch it, it's free on youtube - just search 'Red Dawn (1/10)')

Anyways... I just now noticed that Charlie Sheen was in it as like a 15 year old, so I wanted to confirm this. After some research to confirm, i realized they're coming out with a NEW ONE - SET TO COME OUT IN THEATRES THIS NOVEMBER!



Now, any of you who have seen the first one will know this movie is pretty much totally sweet to the max-core, and its patriotic enough to make even the biggest Commie lover (yes even you guys, Gnartron and Rowen!) almost WANT the commies to invade so you could become a badass Bezerker and go all Rambo II and III on their Ivan Drago asses - guerrilla style.

However, this time? The Russians are not invading. Nor are the Cubans, or the Nicaraguans, or the Iranians or the Palestinians, Or Imperial Japanese, or suicide bombers, or anyone else we seem to have a knack for crossing blades with...




No this time? It's the CHINESE PEOPLES LIBERATION ARMY who comes and starts fucking up the USA's shit...




WTF? Chinese PLA invading America?

Intelligent people? - discuss the likelihood of THIS Hollywood creation....

I dont think hollywood would touch the idea of China invading the USA right now. The only way that could possibly happen is if Samuel L. Jackson single handed takes town the Chinese.

why the fuck is hollywood taking old movies and always trying to make them socially relevant, but in the process totally ruining them. who are the kids gonna be? lil bow bow? so that hollywood can say that they are equal oppurtunity and are color blind. is that so they bring in the minority viewership to a predominantly white movie when it first came out?

and all the morons that vote blue are afraid of the big bad chinese, and all think that we're gonna have to fight them someday to keep our title as super power, whatever that means.

that was the premise of the first red dawn, it was still the cold war and everyone was nervous about the russians. but thats what made the movie hilarious, for the people who could think critically and see through the producers agenda incite fear of the reds. i know people will take that same perspective again, but its the people that will take this movie seriously is what concerns me.

The cast is actually not too bad, as it looks... nobodys really known too well... and i've only seen a few of them in movies - usually a good sign, not having some predominant star or anything...

That said, they do have 2 black kids in the Wolverines (which, seeing as its being remade with Detroit as the setting, instead of what's basically South Park, Colorado, it makes some sense having some 'racial equality' there in a more diverse location...)

I dont think very many "morons who vote blue" are afraid of the 'big bad chinese'... it's more the red blooded, gun touting bible thumpers who actually thought that the events in Red Dawn could actually happen, who would be scared shitless and start digging their bomb shelters and loading up in bulk from repeated costco trips in order to prepare for such a thing.

You're right though, The premise of the first Red Dawn was to rile people up.. The Russians were losing in Afghanistan at the time, and their global power in europe and everywhere else was weakening considerably... and someone figured we should scare the fuck out of ourselves.

However, do we really consider the Chinese a real threat now? Seeing as they have so much invested in our Economy , and have in fact mimicked in so many ways, our infrastructure and shopping malls and whatever else... Many chinese love american things - including athletes (oh, do they love Kobe Bryant...)

I just dont see any Tension between US and China right now... and certainly not enough that they would want to attack the country that, not only helped them take down the Japs in ww2, but is also the largest importer of Chinese made goods, and has the largest number of chinese expatriates out of anywhere...

I'm assuming they'll fabricate some ficticious tension in the film (somewhat like they did in the original one - where apparently Russia had its worst harvest in 55 yrs, Nato had dissolved, and Mexico was in Revolt) that will cause the chinese to have no other option but to take us over.

pssssshh, this is so stupid. Not only would the Chinese never attack us,  but the Chinese are just a lame choice for world dominators in any movie. The Chinese are so nice, attacking is not their kinda game.

i agree with DingoSean that this is unlikely. what i do think is more likely (and could make a way cooler movie) is if China invaded Siberia. we already have a book about just such a scenario, though it would need to be changed so that China isnt beaten so easily. I loved the original.

I read a big article/report like 6 years ago about the chinese military my friend showed me. It basically stated that their military could invade from either coast and make it as far as 1000 miles inland before we would have a chance to halt them. I thought it was pretty legit at the time. I always had a plan to fight and escape hahaha

That wiki acticle said a lot of filming is done in Detroit. Makes sense, that city is perfect backdrop to a movie like that lol

i met red. my bad got the colors mixed up.

and i just don't see detroit as a viable plan from a military point of view considering geography. i don't see china and us getting in a war in the future, but instead i see proxy wars as more likely.

Yeah. There might be SOME tension, perhaps... but as much as there was with the Soviets? Fat chance...

Besides... They are becoming less and less communist every day... and are actually adapting more of a weird, hybrid communism-capitalism economy. So far it's actually working... even though their air pollution is ridiculous, and they still have a lot of human right violations on hand, it's better than Tienanman Square massacre days, for sure...

dooood. red dawn made such a huge impression on me when I was a kid. was my fav movie ever.
loved that shit.
kinda mixed feelings about the remake tho. gonna be hard to top the anti commie, hyper violent, teens with guns awesomeness that the first one was.

You take over Detroit, you take over the USA's largest centre for building ground assult vehicles, as well as... well... almost ALL vehicles... not to mention, you also cut off arguably the largest trade centre in the great lakes region and many sources of raw materials.

Yeh... i see it as a viable spot... They just better be ready to deal with some attacks from some seriously hard ass gangstas who dont fuck around. Detroit has some gang activity for sure, going on - Plus, Marshall Mathers might come out hella pissed off and talk about all of their mammas wayy worse than he ever talked about his...
