Hey newschoolers
My band recently put out a single on itunes.  We're all really stoked.
 I know i'll probobly get a ton of hate about advertising this, but if you could give it a listen, even buy the song if you like it, it would really help us a ton!

+k for any feedback.  Let me know if you bought it! Tell me what you think!

ps- Genre=Indie and I play drums and sing.
(ignore the reviews, they're probably from our friends)

That was great! I was surprised. Only one criticism for you though:

HIRE A NEW FUCKING GUITARIST. Honestly, someone who can play good rhythm and not shitty oversaturated solos.

first off, OP that was very sick dude, props for recording a solid track!

arabian--i disagree completely, the guitarist was sick, and to be honest if you only have rhythm guitar you are wasting the guitar's potential. it's not always a solo when the guitarist plays a melody, its just a melodic riff rather than a solo.

and especially if you have piano bass and drums keeping the rhythm for you already. no need for too much rhythm and the vocals should have some melodic accompaniment which is the lead guitar.

Still, the cliche oversaturated solo was really what I was picking at. I would prefer someone who plays better rhythm and plays a good, tasteful solo. What we get is someone with beginner skill on the guitar and it doesn't sound as good as it could.

Just because you turn the distortion up doesn't mean its a good solo.

listened to it again, and I think the guitar needs to be more on time...he does sound like a beginner and he should practice with a metronome. maybe since it's indie rock that was his attempt at being artsy?

No, that's just his lack of experience. If there's anything that's killing indie, it's that people think it's okay to not play their instruments. You think Animal Collective would pass if they weren't geniuses with MIDI? Or would Radiohead get by if their guitars weren't perfect? I can't name one band where they were completely shitty at their instruments and still made it.

The white stripes...meg white is fucking terrible at drums and she made it sound artsy...the beatles--ringo fucking sucked however everybody else was epic so it didn't matter...there are many more

Thanks so much everyone! The guitarist may not be the best at soloing but he's extremely creative! +k to everyone that bought! We're using this money to get into a better studio.

not bad at all, I actually Liked it a lot. The only thing I have to say is your guitarist needs to work on the solos a little what your doing could sound so much better if the solos were a little more worked out. Dont be afraid to retry them in recording untell your get them perfect, this is your creation make it as beautifull as you can.

i really liked the song and it was great for ur first one. only criticism is the guitar part but other than that i thot it was awesome.

I'd also like to say that you shouldn't categorize yourself in the indie genre. It's seriously disrespectful to actual indie artists if you consciously go for an indie sound. If you happen to fall into that genre after you've made the music, good for you, but never try and make your sound fit a certain genre. If you end up being rock, go with it. IF you end up being pop, go with it.

I completely 100% agree. To be honest, our first two songs (Misleading, Explosions) are not indie at all. We do consider ourselves as an indie band because our past 4 or 5 songs are more towards the direction we were going for.

i think your guitarists cut could have been cleaner..
not saying that he sucks, i think his feel really fits your type of music, but sweet jesus it's miraculous what an hour a day with a metronome can for to your playing

p.s. vocals were on point

yeah his playing is pretty sketchy on the recordings.

These recordings have all been recorded once all the way through (we played one good set of the song live, and the tech guy would do his thing). It's different from a lot of studios today where they record each instrument separately so they have the chance to redo each part if they don't like it. Basically, the studio we recorded at was really low end (50 dollars per song).

If we make a bit more money on this itunes song we're gona try to get into a legit studio!
