Kickflip troubles

Hey ive been working on my kickflips and i have a serious problem. I can varial but icant just do a regular kickflip. Every time i try to kick flip the board rotates like im trying to do a varial. If you have any advice thatd be sick. + karma for advice and bumps

move your back foot closer to your heelside. you are probably scooping with your toe instead of popping straight down.

I was the same way, I couldnt get the kickflip but i could varial. Like what Ben said, work on not scooping with your back foot. Pop straight down. It took me sooo long to land my first one. You just gotta do it over and over and over....

Funny, someone was just telling me the other day how the kids these days can all do varials and tre flips and shit but can't kickflip.

theres no advice that will make you go out and land it first try... just keep trying it and you'll get it eventually. the best thing to try if its going variable is to keep your foot facing forward just a bit more and pretend your almost ollieing but kicking a bit harder and moving your foot slightly to one side. but if that doest work for you just try it like a hundred times and you'll prob start to figure it out.

thats a cool disability but set up for an ollie and then AFTER you pop kick it and then just get more fluid from there. dont try to kick right away (unless you have no pop of course)

If it is really that bad then try a hardflip this will keep the board closer to you or try kickflip 180's frontside

i used to have the same problem. i finally got them consistently by putting my front foot next to the front bolts and hangin off a little. pop with your back foot at the same time as you kick your front foot up the board. for gettting it the first time the key is committing to it and letting the board do a full kickflip. focus on landing on the bolts with your front and back foot and you'll be good

keep your shoulders squared up with the boarder...pop the tail...not scoop

i hate "huck flip" kids who somehow skip over the basics before they even understand shoves/kicks/heels

seriously work on ollieing. Theres no point in trying flip tricks if you have a poor ollie.

treat a kickflip like an ollie. Setup your front foot slightly towards the side of your board. Pop an ollie. instead of sliding your foot straight up, kick to the side.

seems like your problem has a lot to do with your back foot. dont scoop. dont over analyize it. keep it simple

if you think your back foot positioning is fine (which it might not be, you are probably hooked on sliding your back foot around to get the rotation for a varial, so make sure you've fixed that), but if all that is fine, make sure you're NOT kicking down and forwards like you would for a varial, you want to just flick a bit with your ankle and slide your foot up and out to make sure it spins but make sure you get it out tof the way for the board to rotate

this was probably a waste of writing, but oh well

if your rotating the board, then it's your back foot. you need to stop moving it in a shv-it motion

this and LEAN FOWARD not a ton but that was my problem when i was learning to kickflip(still not great) but put more weight over your front foot. it helps you with committing and landing on the bolts. just go to a parking lot and practice for a few hours.
