Senior Project

K so i have to come up with ideas for a senior project
it has to be something that i would spend 20-40 hours on, as well as write an 8+ page paper and do a 8-12 minute presentation
current ideas are:
learning to kiteboard
making a pair of skis
getting a pilots license
something w/photo/video-im getting into this, i just don't have specific ideas
anyone have any ideas/experience with this?

...or learn to kiteboard. thatd be bitchin. attach a GoPro to that, and BAM. presentation.

ya kiteboarding would be sick cuz i could do it this summer cuz i live near the lake
only problem is that i heard it is a bitch to learn and my rents want me to pick something that ik i can do like a good project on
they said i can still kiteboard, just they dont think i should commit to it when ive never done it cuz this project is like huge

Analyzing the similarities between totalitarian governments in 1984, Brave New World, and Lord of the Flies. Oh wait, that's my term paper that I'm only 6 pages into and is due tomorrow...

Peep my thesis: With destruction and tyranny being an increasingly worrisome topic, views of autocratic governments began to surface during the 1940’s and 1950’s. In Brave New World, Lord of the Flies, and 1984, the authors convey their warnings of totalitarian governments by exaggerating elements of their contemporary societies. The idea of a dictatorship or autocracy ruling a country or the world sent shivers to countless people. By effectively using plots establishing and maintaining such totalitarian states, the authors demonstrated what could potentially happen to the earth.

Style+eeze, make sure that you stay in a consistent tense. Stay in the present- all the way through. Also, try to vary your sentence structure a bit. (no doubt you do, but it doesn't really show in the clip of your essay you showed us). Put some together, take some apart, and DO NOT BE AFRAID TO USE colons, semicolons, and dashes. Don't overuse them, but do not be afraid to use them, either. This is of course said without having read the rest of your piece, so I'm just saying it because if you gain just a single point because of me, it'll be worth saying.

any way you could help me with the "sent shivers to countless people" it makes sense kinda, but seems too....... informal?

For some reason, I can't see it in context on the iPod... But don't feel stuck to a particular way of saying something. Try to take the backroads if main street isn't working for you. For example, "the girl was cold" can be written as "the cold pierced her skin" or "the freozen air raised mountainous goosebumps on her skin as it blew through her clothing"

When you say it sent shivers to many people, I don't know the context, but I think you'd be better off saying something like it struck (or strikes) many as .......

Or, it elicits a generally frostbitten reaction... Play with your wording. Remember, it's not what you say, it's how you say it.

fortunately this is only the rough draft, but i wanna get my shit figured out so i don't have to work out as many kinks.

also, this counts as my senior project if i get an A or B on it (i'm a junior)

Making skis at a senior project level would be relatively easy, inexpensive, and fun.  It may even be rewarding.

the only way ive heard of doing involves a shit ton of work
like you have to make a hydraulic press
I really like this idea, but idk if I would actually be able to, like if it is realistic
does anyone know any like easier ways to make skis?

It definitely requires some work, but you can make an inexpensive pneumatic press out of wood and a fire hose.  You need some basic tools such as a router, a jig saw, and a belt sander.  Materials for a pair of skis themselves will run you between $150 and $250 depending on what you chose to do.  It's a pretty fun process.  You can also opt for a vacuum press depending on where you live.  This is the last pair I made and kind of shows the process.  https://newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/505046/ .  Also check out skibuilders.com for some more general info.

Yeah man go for something that is interesting that you can write 8 pages on. Making skiis would be super intersting in my opinion, you could explain how you made them, and how well they work and maybe critique them at the end.

Im a senior too, im doing my final Government project on the positive outcomes of growing hemp, and medical mary-J. i have to make a video documentary for it

pilots license....HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS of flight training etc. and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ per each flight

skis will be difficult and hard to work with
