I resent that. We are on a well at my house but the well has an unusually high iron and salt content that normal filters or the aquifier things can't get out. Like, you like an ice cube it tastes salty.

Where I live we have a well. Our well somehow has an huge excess of iron and salt content in it. And we can't get anything to truly filter it all out (Brita pitchers don't do it, the things you attach to the tap only last 2 months if we use them) so we buy bottled water from Costco to use for drinking.

No shit it isn't worth it. It sucks because we end up with like 40 bottles every time the recycle comes around to pick it up. And my insane Japanese mom freaks out when I use the tap water when I am in an hurry.

I agree with the OP. Too many people drink bottled water out of convenience and end up creating a ton of unnecessary waste. Where you live that you have to get your water out of a well? I've never really had the experience so I won't judge, but couldn't you get gallon jugs from your local grocer or kroger or something? I feel like it would make more sense to have a few gallon containers of water than a bunch of little bottles. I dunno, just my opinion.

I just had to write a paper on this last week. It's sad that they can get away with selllinga nearly free commodity for way more, without more people complaining about it. I haven't really had bottled water constantly stocked at my house for a couple of years now. We just fill up cups or bottles of water from our fridge. Once and awhile on a road trip or when i'm out to eat i'll get a bottled water, but I try to avoid it.

Thats why you gotta live way the hell out in the middle of nowhere, groundwater around my old house was amazing. Only Paradise base on Mt Rainier has better tasting water.

It really does. I only buy it for shows and festivals so I don't die. I just filter tap water form the well and it's good. I think if I ever move to a city I'll get a reverse osmosis filter.

WASHINGTON—Wishing to dispose of the empty plastic container, and failing to spot a recycling bin nearby, an estimated 30 million Americans asked themselves Monday how bad throwing away a single bottle of water could really be.

"It's fine, it's fine," thought Maine native Sheila Hodge, echoing the exact sentiments of Chicago-area resident Phillip Ragowski, recent Florida transplant Margaret Lowery, and Kansas City business owner Brian McMillan, as they tossed the polyethylene terephthalate object into an awaiting trash can. "It's just one bottle. And I'm usually pretty good about this sort of thing."

"Not a big deal," continued roughly one-tenth of the nation's population.

According to the inner monologue of millions upon millions of citizens, while not necessarily ideal, throwing away one empty bottle probably wouldn't make that much of a difference, and could even be forgiven, considering how long they had been carrying it around with them, the time that could be saved by just tossing it out right here, and the fact that they had bicycled to work once last July.

In addition, pretty much the entire states of Missouri and New Mexico calmly reassured themselves Monday that they definitely knew better than to do something like this, but admitted that hey, nobody is perfect, and at least they weren't still using those horrible aerosol cans, or just throwing garbage directly on the ground.

All agreed that disposing of what would eventually amount to 50 tons of thermoplastic polymer resin wasn't the end of the world.

"It's not like I don't care, because I do, and most of the time I don't even buy bottled water," thought Missouri school teacher Heather Delamere, the 450,000th caring and progressive individual to have done so that morning, and the 850,000th to have purchased the environmentally damaging vessel due to being thirsty, in a huge rush, and away from home. "It's really not worth beating myself up over."

"What's one little bottle in the grand scheme of things, you know?" added each and every single one of them.

Monday's plastic-bottle-related dilemma wasn't the only environmental quandary facing millions of citizens across the country. An estimated 20 million men and women wondered how wasteful leaving a single lightbulb on all night really was, while more than 40 million Americans asked themselves if anyone would actually notice if they just turned up the heat a few degrees instead of walking all the way downstairs and getting another blanket.

Likewise, had they not been so tired, and busy, and stressed, citizens making up the equivalent of three major metropolitan areas told reporters that they probably wouldn't have driven their minivans down to the corner store.

"Relax," thousands upon thousands of Americans quietly whispered to themselves as they tossed two articles of clothing into an empty washing machine and turned it on. "What are you so worried about?"

Refuse>Reduce>Reuse>Recycle in that order, best is to refuse to buy it then fewer will be made, recycling takes a good amount of energy in that process so it isnt ideal.  And honestly your mineral water is probably tap water from nyc somewhere which is straight up resiviour water from the catskills with almost no filtration.  We used to have horrible water at my parents house, we would go to some of the natural springs around here and fill up a bunch of jugs, takes about 15 minutes to do and you have the most delisous drinking water ever for the week.

i didnt read any of this thread but i will say that plastic water bottles take up around 1% of all the worlds land fills... thats a pretty high percentage just for one thing.

No, mine is 5000 year old English water thats been slowly filtered, collecting lovely minerals along the way. mmmmmmmm




I drink it if im not at home and want a drink. I aint sorry about it.

Oh and coca cola tried to market dasani water in the UK. They failed and left, as they were basically selling water from the river Thames.

the water in my house has a ton of sulfur which makes it smell like rotting eggs. so we either buy water bottles or we use a brita. i personally dont like water bottles just because my moms a penny pincher and buys the brand x water bottles from aldis or something, so they taste just as bad as our water, and according to that picture in the OP they could be just as gross.

Have the same problem at my house......It's at certain times of the year, and the water softner doesnt always help, so we always stock up one big bottles of bottled water, however, we do recycle them

for example, i agree that people who purchase waterbottles from gas stations are retards. not because i give a damn about the environmental aspect. but because frankly, theyre to expensive.


However, all the people that purchase water are purchasing one alternative to carbonated soft drinks. water is far more healthy than these carbonated soft drinks, less obesity = less strain on americas health infrastructure.

hahahahahahahahaha hahaha nice job completely buying into some ones marketing scam, there is no new water, every last drop of it has been around for millions and millions of years, were are drinking the same water the dinosaurs drank.

As for my H2O preference, Murray Island well water, well goes down into candian bedrock under the st lawrence river!!!!!!!

one 20 oz bottle of aquafina costs 1.50.

128 oz in a gallon

128/20 = 6.4

6.4 x 1.50$ = 9.60$

and thats for aquafina, which is tap water in a bottle, not even a premium brand like Evian or Fiji.
